Men and gods. The wonders of the Egyptian Museum Thanks to Sky Arte

From the Egyptian Museum to Botticelli and Guido Reni: appointments at Sky Arte
Why was it decided in 1824, precisely in Turin, to open a museum that has no equal in the world, dedicated to a civilization that is still unfolding? The answer is in the documentary “Men and Gods. The Wonders of the Egyptian Museum” directed by Michele Mally, who wrote the story with Matteo Moneta, author of the screenplay, and the extraordinary participation of Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, broadcast tonight, Monday January 5 at 9:15 PM on Sky Arte.
With its 40,000 artefacts, 12,000 of which are spread over four floors, the Egyptian Museum of Turin tells almost 4,000 years of history among sphinxes, colossal statues, small amulets and sarcophagi. This extraordinary treasury containing famous finds, from the Papyrus of the Kings, known abroad as the Turin King List, the only list that has come down to us that reconstructs the succession of pharaohs, to the Papyrus of the Mines, one of the oldest known geographical maps, is an authentic temple of miracles. The Sky Arte agenda guides you through finds, scientific studies and behind the scenes of the museum, revealed by Evelina Christillin and Christian Greco. The collections kept in Turin include more than 40,000 artifacts related to the collecting and collecting criteria of the Piedmontese diplomat Bernardino Drovetti, in the service of the French government, who sold the first core of the museum’s collections to Carlo Felice of Savoy for 400,000 lire at the time.
the discoveries of fundamental excavations are relived on television, from Giza to Thebes, via Deir el-Medina. Using exclusive footage, the documentary tells how the unearthed artifacts arrived in the Piedmontese capital, weaving the thread that connects the past with the present. Part of the story focuses on the funerary objects of Kha and Merit, the most important ever found in Egypt, and reconstructs the mummification process, burial rituals and the soul’s journey to the underworld.
Finally the documentary Men and Gods – The Wonders of the Egyptian Museum will focus on the evolution of Egyptian funerary culture, from prehistory to the Ptolemaic era.
