Daniel Cormier now has two hunters who compete on The ultimate hunter 33 final.
That would have been the case, regardless of the combat result of the latest episode, because this week’s matchup contained a few team Cormier Fighters, Rodrigo Sezinando (Brazil) and Jeff Creighton (US). Through three action rounds, Sezinando used a wrestling attack to usually neutralize Creighton and to take a split decision victory.
With the victory, Sezinando becomes the first TUF 33 Welterweight finalist. He is waiting for the winner of the other semi -final matchup between teammate Daniil Donchenko (Ukraine) and Team Chael Sonnen Fighter Matt Dixon (US).
Sezinando and Creighton showed each other a lot of respect in the run -up to the fight and who transferred the cage, where they shared a short hug before they threw down. Although Sezinando pulled first blood with a hard right hand, he quickly revealed his strategy when he changed levels for a Takedown. Creighton showed a strong wrestling defense, but the persistent Sezinando could put him on his back several times.
On the ground, Sezinando was aggressive to improve the position, at least in the earlier rounds. He attacked an arm triangle in round 1 and went up in round 2, but for the most part the defense of Creighton prevented Sezinando caused too much damage.
Creighton received his striking in the third, only for Sezinando to bind him smartly and eventually bring the right side back to the ground. The match ended with Creighton back on the feet and attacks with a flurry of punches, but it turned out to be too little, too late.
During the episode next week, the final will be determined as Imanol Rodriguez (Mexico) of Team Cormier, Team Sonnen’s Joseph Morales (US), with the winner that Alibi Idris (Kazakhstan) meets at the final.
The ultimate hunter 33 Live live every Tuesday at 10 p.m. at ESPN+.
Unlike most editions of TuffCoaches Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen will not fight at the end of the season, because both have been retired for a long time.
The finalists of the TUF 33 Welterweight and flight weight tournaments will compete for a six-digit UFC contract in the live final fights of the show. A date for those periods must still be announced.
