The Minnesota Timberwolves are ideal positioned to win now and to retain their success for the future with their young talent. However, we saw the Golden State Warriors move the “two timelines approach”, and did not succeed in developing and wrapping their young talent on concept choices. After they have not integrated their young players, the Warriors are now left behind with an outdated core.
The wolves are certainly in a position other than the Warriors. Wiseman, who chose the Warriors second in general (ironically just behind Edwards), fit poorly into the Golden State system and is probably a fringe NBA player. Yet they didn’t do much to develop him and gave him up early. Kuminga is another player who is not a natural fit in the Warriors’ System. Nevertheless, the most important power of Kuminga is included, which is needed for the Warriors on various points of his term of office.
The role of Kuminga fluctuates between tough minutes and hardly playing, with the highlight being controversial to get DNPs shortly before and in the play -offs this last season. He now feels destined to leave the Warriors as a limited free agent. Moody’s 3-and-D skills can be valuable to the Warriors, but his development is hindered by never having a consistent role, and he still has an advantage at 23. He is perhaps the clearest case of the warriors who cannot develop their talent.
Brandin Podziemski, who enters his third season, and Jordan Poole, who made an important contribution to the Warriors’ 2022 Championship team before being traded in 2023, are examples of Golden State that their young talent develops. However, Poole’s term of office ended poorly and Podziemski did not improve in his second season. It is worth noting that none of the players was a lottery choice. In the end, the Warriors could have been better put on with their three lottery choices, but they couldn’t develop these players either.
The plan of the wolves for their young players should be clear
The wolves seem to be one step further from the Warriors by putting on players who fit into their system and fill clear void. However, they still have to be careful with how they develop these players. Moreover, Rob Dillingham and Joan Beringer are high aside instead of safe young players. Dillingham is the clearest example of the young talent of the wolves that must be developed.
Some can point to Dillingham who does not play much as a rookie as a failure to develop the eighth overall choice of 2024. Nevertheless, this is more a development year for Dillingham. Moreover, Dillingham with Mike Conley Aging and the Wolves who have no other Point Guard are ready to play an important role. Getting consistent minutes and being able to improve his mistakes as a second -year guard will undoubtedly benefit Dillingham’s career. Even if some growing pains are involved, the wolves have to let go of Dillingham, and it seems that they are ready to do that.
Terrence Shannon Jr. (25) And Jaylen Clark (23) are both on the older side for their NBA -Varings level. Shannon was the 27th Pick in 2024 and Clark was the 53rd Pick in 2023. With Nickeil Alexander-Walker who leaves in the free desk, both players will play a considerable roles. The scoring bravery of Shannon and Clark’s Lockdown on-ball defense gives both players a clear path to minutes. Their age will also help in this respect. Chris Finch said the wolves want to expand their rotation to 10 men, which will help all young players of the wolves, including Shannon and Clark.
Joan Beringer, who set up the wolves with the 17th Pick, is another intriguing business. He might be too raw to play real minutes like Rookie. As a result, Beringer could play a development role that is comparable to Dillingham’s in his Rookie season. In the second season of Beringer, however, Minnesota will have to find a few consistent minutes to develop the 6-foot-11 center. In general, competing for a title should be the most important priority for wolves, but they still have to develop their young talent to support this success.
