There is just over 24 hours over the Summer Transfer window, it is still not certain whether Yoane will or may not be a player in Newcastle.
Weeks ago it looked like a transfer that was anything but waiting to be confirmed, when the Congolese star entered into the last year of his contract, and we were willing to pay Brentford around £ 30 million-plus.
The bees, however, did a complete 180: after they have lost Bryan Mbeumo, they are not willing to let Wissa go, despite the fact that they have handed it to him for zero minutes so far this season.
And with Wissa now publicly about wanting to move West London, it coincides with a new bid from us …
According to Ben Jacobs van Talksport, Newcastle has submitted a new verbal offer to Brentford to sign Yoane Wissa earlier this week, to which the Keith Andrews side still has to respond.
Understanding that it is worth £ 40 million plus £ 5 million in bonuses, this still falls far below the reported £ 60-65 million valuation that Brentford has now linked to the Wil-AWAY WISSA.
Jacobs notes that “Brentford reacted when they were looking for another striker”, which seems to be the most important bottlenecks here. They don’t let him go without replacement.
It is understandable that Brentford, like us with Isak, does not want to be left briefly after selling their top star, especially when a place in the competition can be at stake if they are sucked into a relegation struggle.
Without comparing the refusal of our Brentford to sell Wissa with our own hesitation to see Isak leaving for Liverpool, Brentford can be in trouble if they fail to find a working solution at midnight on Monday.
Wissa claims to have in writing that there is a gentleman agreement between him and the club not to stand in the way of any sales. And when that movement is blocked, it is difficult to see a route again, just like the refusal of Isak to integrate again in Newcastle.
So the next 24 hours of action on the transfer market seem to depend on what Brentford wants to do: selling Wissa to the US can facilitate a departure for Isak, but we will probably not submit a much higher offer that closer to what they ask.
