The theater of authoritarianism in Trump America

In what is another controversial step, US President Donald Trump delivered the federal authority about the Washington police, DC, while he mobilizes 800 National Guard troops to the capital of the country. He contains the move and commitment as a necessary response to unbridled crime, but critics claim that the deeper authoritarian tendencies reveal.

“I announce a historical action to save the capital of our nation from crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor, and worse,” Trump stated during a news conference of the White House and added: “This is Liberation Day in DC and we will take back our capitol”.

Even before the formal announcement, Trump went to his social media site, Truth Social, to proclaim: “Crime, cruelty, dirt and scum will disappear. I will make our capital great again!”

Veteran journalist Terry Moran, who previously announced the Nightline of ABC and served as the most important correspondent of the network, has been pronounced in his analysis.

Moran was dismissed from ABC after posts on social media that President Trump and Stephen criticize Miller, after which he transferred to independent journalism in substitations.

Moran described the developing events such as’ the theater of authoritarianism ‘, comparing’ the kind of things you would see in South America in the 1950s’ or ‘de [Viktor] Orban [Hungarian] Playbook. “

“Put troops on the street, even if they are not really necessary,” he emphasized.

This perspective seems to have a basis when reading about the pushback of local officials such as DC Procurer -General Brian Schwalbe, who denounced the president’s decisions as “unprecedented, unnecessary and illegal.”

In a post on X, Schwalbe stated: “There is no crime emergency in the district of Columbia. Violent crime in DC reached historical lows of 30 years last year and is still 26 percent down this year.”

Data from the Metropolitan Police Department support this and so far show with double digits in important categories for 2025, including murder, sexual abuse, abuse with a dangerous weapon, theft and general violent crime.

These facts raise a question: what is Trump’s motive? Could Trump’s intervention be a calculated distraction from the continuous revelations about the files of Epstein? It seems to be military commitment to motives that go beyond public safety.

And the scope of these actions may not be limited to DC

Trump has suggested escalating to the use of active troops when he is needed, although he had spoken in doubt. He also signaled the intentions to apply comparable measures elsewhere.

“Then I will look at New York for a while. Let’s do this. Let’s do this together. Let’s take a look. It goes pretty quickly,” Trump noted, “and if necessary, we will do the same in Chicago, which is a disaster.”

Perhaps, as Terry Moran suggested, Trump wants people to feel the exercise of his domination, including the dominance of every future opposition.

With limits. The Home Rule Act gives Trump the power to use the DC police for ‘federal purposes’ if the president determines that there are ‘special conditions for emergency situation’.

Trump can use the DC police for a maximum of 48 hours and send a special message to the leaders of certain congress committees for up to 30 days.

In the meantime, Republican Supervision Chairman James Comer James Comer said that he would transport the mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington, council chairman Phil Mendelson and attorney -general Brian Schwalb to Capitol Hill for a hearing next month. That hearing is expected to be timed to coincide with the expiration date of 30 days.

To use the DC police for more than 30 days, the president would need permission from the congress.

What is even more important, and as is articulated by people in Poland and in other autocratic regimes, where the army was deployed and the judiciary of authority is stripped of such a regime, Terry Moran noted: “Your life will be smaller”.

A quote from Terry Moran

“Honesty in journalism is just the fair accounting of what you have seen and heard and understood. You tell the truth. And at the moment, if you are a political reporter, the truth – what you see in the United States – is clear as a day. Donald Trump tries to change the nature of our political system. As a dangerous for constitutional governance.

“This is what stands for our faces. These are the facts. The truth. But regular media cannot say it. That is a problem.

“There are two reasons for this paralysis in the fourth estate. One is stupid, the other is sad.

“Silly: regular news organizations are paranoids about accusation of bias by right winger. The Trumpist media and the Allied politicians have developed an industry about what they constantly claim is bias in the mainstream media. There are indeed, some of the MaveMax has ever given a billion.

“Sad: telling the truth about Trump is determined by the American business community as the business community. The enormous powers of the presidency and the executive power in the hands of Trump can even destroy the most powerful American companies.

“Our country has never been a challenge like this. The only way out is the way of truth. Tell it. First to yourself. Then to others. Trut-telling can be contagious. Who knows, one day you hear it on TV.”
