The students who had occupied the former beautiful cinema of Viale Gran Sasso in Milan in September 2023 were acquitted by the judge Daniela Clementente (seventh criminal section of the Milaanhof) for the two of the fact. The magistrate accepted the request of the public prosecutor Enrico Pavone.
The occupation was born from the ‘Curtains in the square’ movement, which protested against the precious rental prices for university students who are offering moving to live and study in Milan. A spontaneous movement that started from the green area for the Polytechnic with the initiative of a student, Ilaria Lamara, then Ambrogino d’Oro, who had involved countless activists. The cinema was cleaned up a few days later.
The story of the protest
In the courtroom, one of the procedural activists for the occupation of the cinema made spontaneous statements in which he reduced the phases of the protest and claimed that the theme had subsequently been the subject of political debates, both at city and not -city level. The chosen cinema, the splendor, had been abandoned for years and the space, private property, was not redeveloped.
The aim of the students was to expose the presence of spaces of the genre in the city, in the light of the housing needs for students outdoors.
