Controlling your distance to greenside bunkers can be a challenge for the average golfer. Of course, most of us know how to make a bunker shot that comes out high and lands softly, but as soon as some distance has been added, things can become difficult.

How often have you seen your play partner a long greenside bunterschot to cut it too clean and skull over the green? If your friends are something like mine, it comes a common event.

However, the shot does not have to be impossible. In fact, you can use the same exact swing as your normal bunker recording – everything you have to do to get more distance is to change one thing in your setup. Colt Knost explains more in the video below.

How you can improve your long bunker recordings

The setup for a standard Greenside Bunker Shot is something we all know. Ball a little forward in your position, weight on your forefoot, open club face, etc. But as soon as recreational players need a little more distance on these shots, they start making different compensations.

It turns out that it is completely superfluous. To get more distance, you just have to take a little more club – and you can use exactly the same setup.

“You can touch a number of different clubs from a greenside bunker,” says Knost. “I’m going to do the same setup for every recording.”

Knost explains that as he goes to clubs with less loft from the bunker, it usually results in a shot that flies seven or eight meters more. So when its 60 degree shot of the bunker flies 15 meters, his 56-degree wedge flies about 23 meters, while his 50 degrees wedge will fly 30 meters. The only thing that changes is the club in his hands. His setup and swing are exactly the same.

“Believe me, do this.” Knost says. “The same swing. Different lofts. Different photos. It helps your bunker game.”
