Subaru has not made the enormous shifts that other brands have, and clambering to find relevance. Subaru has largely retained what owners of Subaru have always liked: reliability and lifestyle.

That is what makes Subaru from America that a solid sales report for July 2025 places a surprise, but does not fool the total figures. While models such as the Crosstrek and Solterra are breaking records, the Subaru WRX – one of the most legendary name plates of Subaru – slides quietly from the spotlights. The rally-bred Sport-Sedan is confronted with a sharp decrease, with the sale of July an ominous 66.6 percent compared to the same month last year.
Subaru only sold 457 WRX units in July 2025, a steep drop of 1,369 in July 2024. Year to date, the photo is not much better: the sale of WRX drops 35.4 percent, which is more than just a bad month. It is a trend – and it is not unique for Subaru. The performance segment as a whole shrinks if more buyers opt for versatile crossovers, hybrids and EVs that better fit today’s driving habits and budgets.
Crosstrek, Solterra and Forester take speed
While the WRX loses terrain, Subaru’s Crossover -Line -Up picks up a serious momentum. The cross -stretch led the management with its best July ever and sold 17,628 units – a jump of 15.1 percent last year. That marks its third consecutive month as the best -selling model of Subaru, and it is easy to see why. Buyers are looking for four -wheel drive, efficiency and daily usability, and the cross trek delivers.
The Solterra, the fully electric crossover from Subaru, also had a record month. With 1,562 units sold, the sale of Solterra increased by 23.9 percent in July 2024. It is a sign that Subaru’s Push is starting to win in EVS Traction, even in a competitive segment. The forester was not far behind with 11,886 turnover, an increase of 11.3 percent, and the always popular outback moved 14,982 units, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the same time last year. Subaru leaders emphasized the capacity of the brand to meet the evolving needs of the customer.
“As our Line -up grows with exciting new models, including gas, hybrid and electrical offers, we strengthen the confidence that customers will place in Subaru and our retailers every day,” said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales.
WRX’s future is uncertain in a market that continues
So, where does this leave the WRX? It is still a performance icon with a loyal supporters, but the market has clearly shifted. In a world where practical and fuel consumption rule, a manual AWD -Sedan with a stiff ride and premium fuel requirements is simply not the draw it used to be. The decrease in sales is not only seasonal-it reflects a broader decrease in the demand for enthusiastic-oriented sedans.
Subaru will probably not pull the WRX plug yet, but unless the question returns, the future is on shaky ground in the long term. For now, all signs point to an arrangement where cross -overs and EVs are dominating – and the WRX starts to feel like a remnant from a different era.
