The ‘Running Man’ Trailer: Watch Glen Powell Take the Lead This Time – Muscle & Fitness

The running man returns to the big screen this month after Paramount Pictures picked up the option to remake the 1987 action movie classic, but while the main character ‘Ben Richards’ will be played by Glen Powell, Arnold can still be spotted eagle-eyed as he makes a cool cameo in the film. But is the new movie any good, and why did they remake it?

“This is an action movie like no other,” the film’s new star said during The running man‘s film premiere in New York City. “The fact that we’ve seen visceral, intense action films is one thing, but you have this Edgar Wright lens on it that makes every single sequence not only intense, but exhilaratingly fun.”

The 2025 remake will indeed be directed by Wright, the English director known for cult classics like Shaun of the Dead And Last night in Soho. “On this journey you meet all these iconic actors who all just swing hard and kill it, and that just makes this movie like no other. It’s the most fun movie experience you’ll have all year,” Powell added.

While iconic villains like Buzzsaw have been removed or updated to make the story closer to Stephen King’s original novel, this unfortunately means we’ll get laughs out loud, such as Amber Mendez asking Richards what happened to a murdered Buzzsaw, and Richards replying, “Ah, he had to split,” after cutting him in half with a chainsaw.

Luckily, we’ll still see Schwarzenegger’s face on screen, albeit photographically, as his face appears in the form of a cool cameo on the film’s $100 bill. Hollywood heavyweights set to appear for the second version of the film include Josh Brolin as the show’s producer, Dan Killian, and Colman Domingo as the charismatic game show host. But is it good?

‘The Running Man’ (2025) wants to come close to Stephen King’s original vision

“I mean, this movie was filmed with the audience in mind,” Powell said in another interview while on the red carpet at the British premiere. Apparently the intention was always to make a movie that was too big to simply add to a streaming platform. And why not? The original became a big hit. “Edgar Wright is one of our great filmmakers. He has meticulously thought about every frame of this film. The film was shot in large format and needs to be seen in large format, so see it on the biggest screen possible.”

Although Jesse Ventura’s portrayal of Captain Freedom is untouchable, early reviews of the film praised the original new direction. “For those complaining, this isn’t a remake of the cheesy Arnie Flick, this is a faithful conversion of the book,” one viewer wrote. “Had low expectations but really enjoyed it,” wrote another.

Sometimes a giant helping of cheese makes for delicious comfort food, but we’re glad the 2025 version of The running man gives audiences a chance to watch a more authentic version of the story. The running man arrives on November 14th. See below to watch the trailer.
