The Phoenix Suns exchanged Kevin Durant and dumped Bradley Beal to make a disastrous line -up that will crush their season. They have been Defensive identity In the aftermath of their schedule changes, but the franchise was 27th in defensive rating in 2025 and added two insufficient options to play a key roles next season.
The Suns starts Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams. The last place could change based on matchups, but Ryan Dunn started 44 times as Rookie and feels like the favorite for that performance. That group has one non-shooter and two sub-average options. They don’t have a primary maker and various defensive questions. Not exactly exciting for fans.
The Suns will be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference next season. Wasting a year from Booker’s Prime is a pity, but the team’s steps to upgrade their selection only made them worse.
The start setup of the Suns is an absolute disaster
It is expected that Green will be their main player, despite the fact that they are never more than 3.7 assists per game and are a career of 42.2 percentage shot from the field. The Suns would be better off to bring him into a score force, but they do not have the facilitator to feed him shots.
Green started every game for the rockets last season and helped them get the number two seeds in the west. The excitement of fans will be extinguished quickly when they learn that the rockets 7.1 points per 100 assets were worse with Green on the floor last season. Their defensive rating rose with him to 113.4, which would have dropped the top five unit on the 14th in the NBA.
The biggest upgrade of the Suns was to act for Mark Williams. They urgently needed a center and sent two first round picks to land the 23-year-old. The Front Office of Phoenix is enthusiastic about its potential at both ends of the floor, but there are red flags.
Williams played a career-high 44 games last season. He appeared in 106 games in his first three NBA campaigns, or only 43.1 percent of the possible competitions. The injuries are a huge care for the seven-footer, but it doesn’t stop there.
The Suns brought him to their rim protector and lob threat, but the Hornets were 6.6 points per 100 assets that were defensive with Williams on the floor last season. They produced a 121.5 defensive rating, which would have been last in the competition with more than two points. Expect that he suddenly anchors an elite defense, seems problematic.
Brooks and Dunn are under -average shooters who will flank questionable game makers. This setup is simply not good enough.
The Suns can quickly choose Grayson Allen or the versatility of Royce O’Neale in their opening group. Those options have their own warts, but can help the first -year head coach Jordan Ott find a better balance. In the end the Suns have no perfect answer, so they will be firm again in the lottery.
The Phoenix Suns ended the Kevin Durant era, but things don’t look brighter. There are serious questions for both ends of the floor and zero path to repair them. It will be a rough few years for the franchise. Hopefully Mat Ishbia learned from his mistakes and he is finally ready to help the suns get back on the right track. It will be a long way, but the journey starts with one step in the right direction.
