The rich formal language continues for Moses

In terms of form you can’t beat a trotter and right now Moses (Father Patrick) has the form line of a very good trotter.

His victory in the $20,000 Kim McDowall Painting Trotting Cup in Gore today was his third victory in six starts.

Trained by Gerard O’Reilly and driven by his daughter Sarah, the six-year-old started well and soon took on the role of pacer before backmarker Fiery Bandito came along to take over the running.

“I was just lucky enough to be handy. Then Fiery Bandito came along and it helped that I had a nice course. He traveled well the whole way,” Sarah said.

At the finish, Moses still had some length left over Practical Magic.

“He probably had a different gear. If something had really happened to challenge him, he would have fought them.”

The win was his seventh in forty-three starts.

“He’s just matured and aged over the last year and he’s getting stronger. He was quite weak and weak in his gait but that’s all ironed out now and he’s found his confidence.”

The win was one of two for Sarah. She won the final on the Tony Stratford-trained Bettor Way.
