Manchester United fans had seen their team lose their last three games at St James’ Park against Newcastle United, now make that four.
It is also six wins in the last eight games (home and away) for Eddie Howe against Man U.
Manchester United fans with strong opinions after their defeat at St James; Park.
Interesting to see their despair at Wednesday’s defeat, as they argue about how terrible they think Michael Carrick, and also bizarrely, how terrible they think Newcastle United?!!
Manchester United fans are now having their say after the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
The Man U supporters respond through their Red cafe notice board:
‘I predicted a defeat before this match. I knew the midweek match at St. James Park would pose problems, at least for the modern version of Manchester United. But I thought at half-time that we wouldn’t lose this against ten men and then I got my hopes up. How stupid of me.
Completely deserved loss, Newcastle beat us with 10 men. The difference in energy, willingness to compete, suffering and ultimate victory was astounding between these two teams. I understand that we have a serious lack of athleticism compared to them (and to most/all teams in PL, especially in midfield).”
‘I never expected us to win this game, Newcastle are just far too fast, strong and fit to give our players a chance. I expected that we wouldn’t look like a pub team.
Tonali alone is ten times the size of Case-Mainoo in midfield.’
‘I think Newcastle were probably trying to play better football under Steve Bruce. Disgusting team.’
‘There were only ten men left and you would really think it was the other way around.
We were terrible today and Howe had Carrick’s pants all the way down.’
‘Newcastle 100% deserve this win
They were the better side in every way.”
‘We got what we deserved. Nothing. Second best form from start to finish. Didn’t seem motivated to win and looked tactically one-dimensional. The worst part is that Newcastle weren’t even that good. They just did their best and we didn’t.’
“Newcastle always took us on, we had no answer. This was always coming, our results have gone over the barriers in the last few games.”
“Same as it ever was against this one. Our midfielders can’t run and theirs are like Duracell Bunnies against us.’
‘Nonsense, dirty, dirty game full of dives and elbows. If you’ve lost five out of six games you might be desperate enough to play like Newcastle did.’
“Amazingly, somehow there wasn’t a single second in that game where it looked like we had the extra man.
I thought Newcastle were going to tire, but instead they started strong. A very deserved result for both teams.’
‘Sometimes football gives you the right result, tonight was one of those evenings.
The team that showed up and did their best got the 3 points, the team that called and couldn’t worry rightly went home with nothing.’
‘There was no way we were going to win that game anyway. St James Park is cursed for us. Absolutely game enhancing c..ts. I should have hit £100 on Newcastle after 50 minutes.’
‘Criminally poor performance. Carrick is not up to the task. The second half was the greatest cowardice.’
“Newcastle is her and we had an extra man. It’s as bad as it can get.’
‘Newcastle was ready for it, why not us?’
‘The referee completely lost control of this game and gave yellow after yellow in the first half and allowed Newcastle to get away with cynical foul after foul and bowed to their constant whining.’
“We haven’t played well at St. James’s Park for a long time, we’re struggling against physical teams like Newcastle. I was actually quite happy when it looked like we would get away with a draw.’
‘I’m furious, what a bunch of losers, second time this season against ten men, make sure you at least get that one point, as if it seemed so obvious that this would happen with a lack of urgency and any form of determination, everything Newcastle showed.
‘I didn’t expect us to go there and win, but to lose when they’ve played with ten men for so long is a terrible result. We never really felt like winning and they were the better team with ten men for about twenty minutes.
Made it clear before the match that we just don’t fit well together in terms of speed and mobility and that was clear again tonight.’
They thought it would be an easy win if Newcastle got red.’
‘Call for a renewal of the midfield. If we changed the midfield pair so we had Joelington and Tonali, we would win comfortably today.”
‘Bad today, we lack a serious amount of strength in midfield to match such teams and definitely need two full-backs.’
‘Outworked and physically dominated is a recipe for disaster when we play Newcastle.’
‘Tonali and Joelinton dominated our midfield (as usual). Carrick was too slow to set Amad up, and we never got him the ball when he came on. Big chance missed, losing to Everton and Newcastle, when both played with 10 for most of the match, is annoying.’
‘I didn’t see the match, but I knew instinctively that this would be a mistake. A cup final for Newcastle (for reasons I can never quite understand – 1996 was 30 years ago!) and they are a physical team that we hate playing against and have hated for a long time.”
‘Midweek under the lights, fanatical cup final from Newcastle fans, never expected good things.
But being against 10 for half the game and still losing is Amorim-like.
Ended up with too many of the weak squaddies at the end.’
‘Disgusting, losing to an out-of-form Newcastle team, trailing by more than half.’
‘The goal was good enough to win any game, to be honest. But an irritating game, especially because of the theater of the Newcastle players.’
‘Newcastle deserved the 3 points. They were the only team to win today.
Carrick’s pathetic negative tactics, despite only having ten men for the whole half. Devils.’
‘I’m so tired of being overworked by this hard c…ts. That’s all Newcastle ever has to do against us.’
‘I wouldn’t pay them in rings, a lazy performance against a poor Newcastle team down to ten men, Mbuemo had another shocker.’
‘Well, everyone was fed up with VAR referees, so fair play to Banks for trying a new innovation and letting the players do that instead.’
“See yourself in May, Michael, boy.”
“We looked like the one who had sat a man down.”
‘Deserved loss. Absolutely disgusting performance.’
‘I didn’t even think Newcastle were good, but we were quite bad. Let’s see how we recover from this.’
‘One of the worst performances of the season.
I hope people will now realize that Carrick as permanent manager may not be the wise choice.’
‘They were given this game on a silver platter after the red and put it in bottles. There is still a long way to go to secure a place in the Champions League. Absolute bottlers.’
‘Terrible display. Deserved loss against 10 men.’
‘I despise Newcastle, well done, c..ts.’
“As bad as it ever was under Amorim.”
“We’ve been crap for over a month now, happiness can only take you so far.”
“At least there won’t be people asking Carrick to get the job full-time now.”
‘Miserable. Amorim level performance. Each performance under Carrick was worse than the last and these were the absolute pits.
Zero intensity. No excuses. We should have been the freshest team at the top of the table, but we looked bleak. No pressure, no energy.
Subs were made way too late.
BIG test for Carrick now. ‘
‘4th visit there, 4th defeat. On the way home, three intersections were closed and flashed by a speed camera.
I love this club’
‘With all the missed opportunities and having to endure another world-class opponent, we still almost came away with a point, which isn’t easy at St. James’ Park, even when Newcastle are terrible.’
‘In any case, this shows that if we get European football, this team is not nearly big/good enough. So the usual 3-4 signings are not enough. Then we will either leave Europe early, or do like Newcastle this season and be poor in the PL.
We struggled for a number of years against Newcastle and other high-intensity teams. Too many players on this team do not have the qualities.’
‘The red card was harsh, but because of the way the referee handed out a yellow card, sooner or later someone got a red card
With ten men it can be difficult to play against. It’s not a huge shock for a team to lose to ten men. It’s certainly unusual to do this twice in a season, but the bottom line is that Newcastle had more energy and creativity yesterday and were just more into it.”
‘Newcastle have taken festive changing room photos again. Tinpot c..ts.’
‘Carrick was outcoached and had no response to what Newcastle did. Only this time the red card didn’t save us.’
