Police have solved an eight-year-old murder case in which a man was murdered by his wife and her associates after she developed an extramarital relationship.

Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. Dhage, addressing a press conference here on Friday, said the matter surfaced again after Bhimashankar Poojari of Kadani village filed a fresh complaint on November 17 this year.

He reported that his 25-year-old younger brother Beerappa Poojari, who was believed to have died in 2017 due to excessive alcohol consumption, was actually murdered but the family members assumed it was a natural death.

According to the complaint, Beerappa’s wife Shantabai had developed an illegal relationship with Siddu Mallanna Bagalkot. When Shantabai plotted to eliminate her husband, Siddu Bagalkot, accompanied by his three friends, Mahesh Rathod, Suresh Rathod and Shankar Bichgatti, carried out the murder in 2017.

Acting on the complaint, Farhatabad police registered a case and formed a special investigation team under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Kanika Sikriwal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Praveen H. Naik, who gathered information and arrested all five suspects.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the murder, said Dr. Dhage. All five were arrested and remanded in custody.
