The Honda Civic Si will return in 2026 largely unchanged from the previous version. And while you won’t find any bright and shiny changes to the Civic Si, the return of the feisty Civic is good news for fans of accessible performance. Admittedly, it’s not the most powerful, sports-oriented compact car in its segment. But that keeps the 2026 Honda Civic Si of channeling some of the heat energy from the fierier, albeit also much more expensive, Honda Civic Type R.
The 2026 Honda Civic Si: fast, fun, accessible
If you’re a little indecisive, you might find Honda’s 2026 Civics menu somewhat paralyzing. Let’s talk about flavors. For the 2026 model year, you can get your budget-friendly Civic in a 150-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. Definitely not the hottest thing around. For those looking for a little more “bam!” in their Civic à la Emeril Lagasse, the hybridized Civic turns things up with a 2.0-liter inline-four setup with two electric motors, fortunately bringing the power to 200 hp. As a result, the Civic Hybrid is competitively fast in this segment. However, it’s not as fun to drive as the Honda Civic Si, especially if you use the Civic Si’s smooth-shifting and cheerful six-speed manual transmission.
200 ponies may be enough
Sure, in the age of effortlessly powerful electric cars and muscular hybrids, the 2026 Honda Civic Si doesn’t produce impressive numbers. However, the 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine in the Civic Si is more than enough to motivate the sporty sedan to drive spiritedly. The little 1,498cc VTEC inline-four produces 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. But with a curb weight of 2,952 pounds, it doesn’t take much to move the Civic Si with gusto.
2026 Honda Civic Si Performance Specs
Engine | VTEC 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 |
Horsepower | 200 hp at 6,000 rpm |
Couple | 192 LB-FT at 1,800 rpm |
0-60 mph | 6.6 seconds |
1/4 mile | 14.9 seconds |
When we tested the 2025 Honda Civic Si, one of our regular EV fans thought the Civic Si’s old-school appeal was a blast from the past in the very best way. No fuel-guzzling V8 needed. Of course, for those who just need some extra power, the Civic Type R produces a muscular 315 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. For an extra $16,000 or so, that is.
The 10 fastest Honda Civics ever built
The Honda Civic is one of the best-selling commuter cars in automotive history, but it also has a wild side.
The most spirited Civic without an R badge
Pleasure. But not necessarily quickly. That’s the formula for the 2026 Honda Civic Si. Compared to the more expensive Honda Civic Type R, the Civic Si is almost anemic. The Type R sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, almost two seconds faster than the Civic Si. The Civic Hybrid even managed to reach 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds with its dual electric motors. That’s almost half a second faster than the sportier Civic Si. But that’s not what the Civic Si is about. Far from it.
Like the two-door Toyota GR86 and its brother, the Subaru BRZ, the Civic Si focuses on back-to-basics driving fun. Lightweight, an easy-to-drive manual transmission, a eager chassis, larger brake rotors and a stiffer suspension make the Civic Si a more exciting driver’s car than the standard Civic or Civic Hybrid. Add in a standard limited-slip differential, and you have one of the best driver’s cars on the market for the price.
Six speeds, all smiles
The base naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the milder Honda Civic offering is mated to a continuously variable transmission rather than a more conventional torque converter automatic. The same applies to the more powerful hybrid models. However, the news gets better for the 2026 Honda Civic Si. Instead of the noisy CVT, the Civic Si’s standard gearbox is a smooth, snappy six-speed manual.
This shift lever has a well-oiled, sneaky, slick action that I can never tire of. Paired with a light clutch, closely spaced pedals and a free-revving motor, it seems born to marry this transmission.
-William Clavey for TopSpeed
Do you want a driver’s car that shifts for you? Look somewhere else. As of this writing, you can’t get a Civic Si with a CVT or traditional automatic. But that doesn’t mean the Civic Si’s manual transmission is without technological tricks. The Honda Civic Si’s transmission comes with a selectable rev-matching feature, which increases engine speed for smoother and more effective downshifts. But if your heel-toe game is good enough, you can disable the manual transmission’s rev-matching feature.
10 affordable sports sedans for enthusiasts on a budget
Do you need practical functionality without sacrificing performance? One of these affordable sports sedans could be what you need.
Seating for five, plenty of space
Unlike sleek, two-door cars, the Honda Civic Si doesn’t shy away from practicality. Honda says the sporty Civic version can seat five people using its 96.6 cubic feet of passenger space. However, larger occupants may find space in the rear seat of the compact car a bit tight for three people.
2026 Honda Civic Si Dimensions
Freight volume | 14.1 cubic feet |
Passenger volume | 96.6 cubic feet |
Seating | 5 |
Headroom in the front | 37.6 inches |
Rear seat headroom | 37.1 inches |
Rear headroom is virtually the same in the front as in the rear. But rear legroom is more important than the front, at 37.4 inches and 42.3 inches respectively. As for cargo volume, Honda says the Civic Si will swallow about 14.1 cubic feet of goods, enough for several suitcases or a generous shopping list for the whole family. It also puts the Honda Civic Si on par with the equally sporty Hyundai Elantra N.
Why the Honda Civic Si still dominates the affordable performance market
The Honda Civic Si is a venerable competitor in the compact performance market. This is what makes it so great.
Should you buy one?
In its current form, the Honda Civic Si is simply one of the nicest family cars in its price range. A standard manual transmission, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a limited-slip differential and an agile chassis make for a cheap and cheerful sedan package. Add five seats and enough cargo volume for a cross-country trip, and the Civic Si manages to be as family-friendly as it is fun.
Honda Civic 2026 Pricing Information
Year, make and model | Starting price |
2026 Honda Civic LX Sedan | $24,595 |
2026 Honda Civic Sport Sedan | $26,595 |
2026 Honda Civic Sport hybrid sedan | $29,295 |
2026 Honda Civic Si | $30,995 |
2026 Honda Civic Type R | $48,000 (East) |
As attractive as it is, the 2026 Honda Civic Si’s only transmission option obviously limits the sporty sedan’s appeal to manual car buyers. As with the Civic Type R, the Civic Si’s exclusive gearbox option is a six-speed manual. So car buyers unfamiliar with three pedals might be better off with a snappy dual-clutch automatic family car, like a Volkswagen Golf GTI or Hyundai Elantra N.
