Trav Noonan breaks down the best runs of Pakenham Cup day in section form
Pakenham raced quickly on Saturday, with the track rated a Soft 5, but upgraded to a Good 4 after Race 3. Many track records were pushed on Saturday with some top performances for this time of year on the clock. Below are some horses worth following and seeing what they produced on the clock over the weekend.
Race 3 – I only wish 2i.e (White sleeves, pink Pom Pim hat)
This race was run at a good pace early on but then they really slowed down the pace between 1000-600m with leader Aiming setting splits of 13.46 (1000-800m) and then 13.00 (800-600m), very slow splits in which Jenni Gone hooked Bonkers around the field making no effort to get forward and into a clear galloping space. The horse most affected by the delay in my view was I Only Wish he was held up quite a bit as she was locked up as the race moved around her.
Her final 200 meters was 11.75 seconds and was the fastest race. She came home late behind a smart filly. She needs luck in her races because she is a laggard, but sections behind her after no momentum indicate she is airborne.

This race was dominated on speed by Manolo Bling and Biancelli, running at a below-average pace early on for 1000m races of the class. There were some nice runs behind these two, but I thought this guy was the standout.
He ran 10.32 seconds between 400-200m which was the fastest race and was 3rdrd fastest final 200 meters of the race at 11.24 seconds. This was a strong performance overall from him and something of his best form. Remember if the race was run early at a higher speed he might go over the top.
The key to this horse is that he can perform over 1100 and 1200 meters and now that he is back in form I would like to follow him next start.

Race 6 – Madiyya 3rd (red, green side)
Yes, she was a beaten favorite again here, but this was a good run in defeat as she had to make a long run at high speed here. The leader went hard here, running to the 800m in 48.09 seconds, some 18 lengths above standard, meaning this was a high speed race. Electric Impulse and Hiyaam Proud were here before her and you could say that back at this speed she was capable, but you have to remember she was 2i.e up and gaining 300 meters in distance, while those two horses were race fit and left 1600 meter runs at the last start.
She still performs the 2i.e fastest 600-400m, 400-200m and 200m- Finish here only bettered by Hiyaam Proud and think this run will stand her in good stead for her next start.
Electric Impulse gives Ben Allen a double and a very SPECIAL part owner would smile 😁#bruce@bennallen44 @HDwyerRacing pic.twitter.com/Ad2EvXzpY8
