Wymark put in a great last 200 meters on Saturday and Trav Noonan thinks he can win again this summer
Caulfield Heath was the racecourse that hosted Metropolitan Racing on Saturday and the circuit was typical of tough summer racing and the leaders having an advantage. The fence was clearly where I had to run and I would forgive horses that had to widen their runs on the course.
Below is our look at some horses worth following, what they produced on the clock at the weekend and what you should be careful of.

Race 2 – Wymark 1st (no blue, gold hoops, white sleeves)
This guy was outside the winner’s circle for a long time, but he did win a Tulloch Stakes at Group 2 level and started $6.50 in the Australian Derby won by Riff Rocket in 2024, which also featured Ceolwulf and Tom Kitten, so this guy has been denied any talent.
He had a dream run here on the fence, which was the right spot, but he won well and sprinted quickly, covering his last 200 meters in 11.52 seconds (2nd fastest of the day) in a race that was very stop-start, but had a good overall time against the track pars.
There’s no reason why he can’t keep winning if he shows this turn of the day at races during the summer months.

Race 3 – Seafall 5th (black side)
This race was held for people who like speed, with it being slow early and then a gradual build up from the 400 meters onwards. Seafall was back in traffic and never really allowed to build momentum, but her final sections were very good, her final 200m of 11.56 seconds clearly the sharpest of the race and was the fifth fastest of the meeting.
Big number of the same level and clear space, she can make her presence felt the way she ended here.
Angland fights all comers 💪

Race 8 – Steel Move 2nd (Royal Blue Side)
Gin A Tonic controlled completely from the front here and dictated this race, but had some good runs behind him, particularly Steel Move who finished his last 400 meters strongly in 22.70 seconds and really attacked the line once he balanced himself on the straight as he didn’t corner the tight bend on the Heath track very well.
This horse is back in the zone this pre-season after a strong win ahead of Ballarat and has proven he has great speed in the straights. I’d like to follow him on a bigger circuit at the next start, especially the Flemington straight.

BE CAREFUL
Race 5 – Magic Millions 2yo VIC Classic 1100m won by Unit Five
He won this race well and looked professional when Unit Five did it, but the times are a bit disappointing.
His final 200 meters topped the day at 11.80 seconds, which was 19th best of the day, but he was entitled to sprint home quickly as he controlled the race at a slow pace and was on the fence, which was clearly where he needed to be.
The overall time for the 1100 meters was also on the slow side for the Track Par’s, about 6 lengths below average for that distance.
He may still have been a good Unit Five talent and with more pressure he could produce a lot more because it was done relatively effortlessly, but the content wasn’t there on the clock to get carried away. However, I would be heavily against those who finished behind him the next start as this race does not rank well.
Unit Five dominates on debut in the Magic Millions Vic 2YO Classic!
