The new Mercedes-AMG GLC could have more than 900 hp

A few months ago, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the electric GLC. It can produce up to 483 horsepower, but once AMG gets its hands on it, it could nearly double that, according to a new report.

Unnamed “sources” told that Coach that AMG wants the GLC to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than three seconds. The SUV will reportedly have three axial flux motors, one at the front and two at the rear, which together produce more than 900 horsepower, and can reach a regulated top speed of 250 km/h.

The AMG version will use the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA), which Mercedes previewed with the GT XX Concept, a 1,340 hp, 360 km/h super sedan unveiled earlier this year.

A key to the car’s performance will be the battery, which will use cylindrical cells instead of prismatic cells and feature direct cooling. This allows the coolant to flow directly around each cylinder, which the SUV needs to maintain high performance.

Automakers may be pulling back on their electrification efforts, but many continue to invest in battery technology. The electric AMG GLC will likely serve as a competitor to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, which should deliver similar power and capabilities.

When the AMG GLC arrives, it will mimic the sounds and feels of an internal combustion engine car like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The GLC will also have fake gear levers and simulated sounds, a new version of Skeuomorphism.

The high-performance GLC should also feature an assortment of AMG-specific visual upgrades, such as unique fascias and active aerodynamics. Inside, it has sports seats and AMG accents throughout.

Next year will be crucial for Mercedes-AMG. The GT XX Concept previews a new performance sedan for the company, which will be followed up with an SUV. The automaker previewed it last December and it could boast more than 1,000 horsepower when it arrives.
