Alex de Minaur will offer at his first Grand Slam semi-final ten years after his first junior great semi-final when he meets Felix Auger-Aliassy.
New York, USA, September 3, 2025 | Jackson Mansell
From a play perspective, New York has always felt like a home away from home for Alex de Minaur.
With a 22-8 record in Heren Singles promotion, including three quarter-final and the first top 10 of his career, the US Open Statistically is the most successful SLAM of the Minaur.
His long-term connection with the tournament, however, dates further than his time on the ATP tour.
The World No.8 was a junior semi -finalist at Flushing Meadows in 2015 after he went to the last four as qualification – the first qualifying match since Devin Britton in 2008 to reach that phase.
“If we look at results, I think this is by far my best slam,” the minaur claimed. “It is often a question that I ask myself why it is exactly here in New York? And I think I probably put it down on perhaps the courts that are a little faster here and the circumstances and the ball that fly through the air a little faster.
“But all the way back to Juniors, I had an incredible run of qualifications all the way to the semi-final. I got my first top 10 victory against Nishikori here. First quarterfinals was here. I now made three-quarters (quarter finals) here. I get good results in New York. New York is treating me well.”
The Minaur, a consistent performer at Grand Slam level and participated in five of the last seven large quarter -finals. Only Carlos Alcaraz (six), Novak Djokovic (six) and Jannik Sinner (seven) have recorded more.
It is only appropriate that the Minaur’s best chance to reach a semi -final of a Grand Slam men’s singles, but has done in Flushing Meadows.

Ranked world no. 27, Felix Auger-Aliassime is the lowest opponent of the minaur of his six career Grand Slam Quarterfinals-from which four were arranged in the top 10.
The Canadian leads 2-1 in the head-to-head, after they have both won hard court matches at the Cincinnati Masters and Davis Cup final in 2022.
The Minaur, however, came overly in their most recent meeting when he came from a set to triumph against Auger-Aliases at the Rome Masters last year.
The Aussie also triumphed on Auger-Aliastime in the quarterfinals of the Boys’ Singles on Wimbledon 2016.
“Felix is that type of player that everyone knows is incredibly high, and when he plays with confidence, he is very difficult to beat,” said the Minaur. “This week he clearly plays incredible tennis and he has many weapons.

“For me it is about trying to disturb his rhythm, not to give him the chance to bully me on the field. I do my best to prevent and dictate when I can, and in the end I know what I am doing.
“These are the matches in which I want to play. For me it is about going for the chance, and I am very enthusiastic about it.”
The Minaur hopes to be the first Australian to reach the semi -finals of the Herenhonkslag at Flushing Meadows since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.
“I always thought that the first task is to get there (the quarterfinals) and to give myself the chance. If I get away early, I never get the chance, so at least I have the chance for me,” said the world no. 8.
“This is my sixth quarter final, so I have some experience. I know what to expect, and the mentality is going to go there. There is no restraint.”
The Minaur will be in action on Thursday morning at 1:30 AM Aest, which you can view live on the Nine Network or Stan Sport.
