Alex de Minaur continues to his sixth career Grand Slam Quarterfinals, who prevails against the Swiss qualifying wall Leandro Riedi.
New York, USA, 2 September 2025 | MONKEY
Alex de Minaur is through until the last eight on US Open 2025 after he had passed the Swiss qualifying weather Riedi.
The Louis Armstrong Stadium played for the first time at one of the US Open Show courts for the first time this tournament, Louis Armstrong Stadium, wasted no time and put the world no. 435 Reidi 6-3 6-2 6-1 away in 93 minutes.
The Minaur set the tone out of the opening set and broke Riedi twice. The world no. 8 then quickly moved to a 5-0 lead, but was surprisingly broken while he served for the set.
However, the Australian would regain calmness and close the set on his next occasion.
All the thoughts of a revival of the Swiss were quickly extinguished when the Minaur broke to Love in Game Three of the Third Set.
Riedi had a point to break back, but did not succeed in taking it, and when the no. 8 seed insured a double break, the competition was won.
A ninth double error for Riedi saw the Minaur claim the victory and continue to his sixth Grand Slam quarterfinals.
“I was happy with my level, my focus,” said the Australian. “I knew he had a number of large shots and he had a hell of a week through Quallies.
“I am very proud of what I do. In the end I want to play, play for the big titles, be contrary. I put myself in the right places. I still have a great chance in the quarterfinals, I go out and go a swing.”
The Minaur, so taken in a third quarter final in Flushing Meadows, where he will meet the world no.27 Felix auger-aliassy. The Canadian defeated Andrey Rublev 7-5 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 16 minutes.
The couple gathered three times before, with Auger-Aliassy that leads 2-1, including their only earlier Outdoor Hardcourt meeting, in Cincinnati in 2022.
“His movement is so decent, but now he comes to the net,” said Auger-Aliassy of the Minaur. “He added his game, take the ball early and put pressure on his opponent – if I allowed him.”
Statistically, this is the best chance of the Minaur to reach his Maiden Grand Slam semi -final. Above the lowest ranked quarter-final opponent of his career, the Minaur experience in this phase of the tournament hopes will predict in his favor.
“I always thought that the first task is to get there and give myself the chance,” he said. “If I look early, I will never get the chance, so at least I have the chance for me. It’s about embracing it.
“I have some experience. I know what to expect, and the mentality is going to go there. There is no restraint.”
