Boombox Betty delivers a magical moment for her Florida Connections (Coglianese)

There are times in this company that take every calculated breeding decision, every sleepless night during the foal season and every anxious veterinary call that is worth it. On Saturday, one of those magical moments delivered then Boombox Betty – a mare that I have bred Curlin’s honor – announced her arrival at the circle of the winner in a spectacular way in Gulfstream Park.
And what an announcement it was! Boombox Betty not only won her first race – she demolished the competition by an amazing 13¾ lengths of more than six and a half furlongs on the dirt. In a field of eight with mares from Kentucky, New York, California and Florida – some conceived by stallions with study costs up to $ 125,000 – she made her explanation loud and clear.
What made this victory even more exciting for me was the presence of another fillage with in Florida by Curlin’s honor in the same race called Princess Honor who secured third place! If someone who brings stallions and the racing horse industry to the market through my advertising agency, seeing a father I promote two offspring is the first and third in the same field in the same field and validates the quality we present to breeders.

This is precisely why we do what we do as breeders – especially here in Florida, where our dedication runs as deep as our love for these beautiful animals. My own journey to breeding started with the desire to really understand what breeders and owners experience, so I could better market this incredible industry. Joe and Helen Barbazon gave me a generous mare, so I could walk in the shoes of those I represent. That mare became the mother of Boombox Betty – which made this victory a beautiful full circle of mentoring and shared passion.
