On the occasion of the Women’s Day, the Meter Association, in the foreground in the protection of minors, draws attention to an often neglected reality: the protection of girls, the women of tomorrow. Celebrating this day also means guaranteeing the smallest a safe childhood, free from any form of violence and abuse. Respect and dignity must be insured, preventing every violation of their fundamental rights. These figures represent stories about suffering that must cause a profound reflection. Women’s day, starting with small women, cannot be limited to symbolic gestures: a concrete commitment is needed to protect and bind that every girl can grow in a world that respects and protects her. International data is clear, a concrete action is needed: nowadays, in the world, millions of girls for challenges that endanger their future. According to UNICEF, one in eight girls underwent sexual violence before the age of 18, and including non -physical abuses, such as online intimidation, the number to one in five rises. Moreover, 100 million girls run the risk of being forced into an early marriage in the coming years, so that they deny the right to choose their future. Also in Italy, girls and teenagers are often the victims of violence and discrimination. The data shows that more than half of the victims of mistreatment in the family are minors of 18 years, which shows how essential it is to intervene to guarantee them protection and opportunities. March 8 is a time to remember that the protection of girls is the first step towards a better future. The Meter Association renews its dedication to prevent and contrast any form of abuse, to offer support to victims and promoting a culture of respect and dignity since childhood. We invite institutions, communities and individuals to participate in this mission, so that every girl can be protected and improved and a free and respected woman can be.
