The measures of the cement industry to reduce the carbon footprint, emphasizes on Green Cementech Conference

The 21st edition of CII Green Cementech was started on Thursday (15 May 2025) in Hyderabad with speakers who emphasize the meaning of the cement industry that speeds up the approval of measures to reduce the carbon footprint.

The opening session of the two -day conference and expo, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA), Green Cementech 2025 Chairman and Ambuja Cements Managing Director Ajay Kapur said sustainability leads to growth.

“We have to continue to integrate futuristic technologies that transform how we produce, move and think about cement. The path that lies in front of us is a challenge, but full of opportunities,” he said.

Joint MD of Sagar Cements S. Sreekanth Reddy said: “There is enormous potential for deep decarbonization in the cement industry – driven by renewable energy, artificial intelligence and digital innovations.” CII Green Cementech 2025 organizers, in a press release, said that the event with ‘a road nature is just zero carbon’, because the theme aims at innovative strategies and initiatives to reduce the CO2 footprint of the industry.

The cement needs of India was 450mt

Later in a media interaction, Mr Kapur and Mr Reddy stated some of the measures that the cement industry is implementing, including waste heating, renewable energy and the use of solid waste from the municipal, especially waste plastic, as fuel next to coal. The installed production capacity of the cement industry is around 680 million tons. Last year the cement consumption of India was 450 MT.
