I recently made up with the upcoming Scottish Starlet, Stephen Clancy, shortly after I brought his undefeated amateur record to 8-0. Stephen defeated Tapology’s number 1 ranked Bantamweight, Jake Ngai, in the main event of Braveheart Promut Show in Glenrothes, Scotland last weekend.
But how did the prodigy of the higher level succeed in encountering martial arts?
- At what age did you start training in MMA and why did you fall in love with the sport?
I started training MMA at about 4 or 5 maybe. My mother was a dance teacher and I was a superhyper child who always had a fight and so in kindergarten. I was like the only child on a behavioral card in the nursery. Next to my mother’s dance school was a Thai boxing school and she put me in a few sessions to try to calm me down, and I thought it was great. I was a but too hyper and was always postponed and was told that I was uncooked. Then I met my stepfather Sean and my older brother Sean Clancy JR and they would do their own things on the class side and I have worked with them and I have always trained since then.
2. Who are your favorite hunters/influences in MMA?
My favorite hunters at the moment I am | Lia Topuria and Islam Makhechev.
3. How would you describe your fighting style?
Fast, destructive and a few teammates describe me at the start of each round, such as leaving a dog from the belt, haha.
4. With an undefeated amateur record, is there interest in going to the real estate world championships or are you more focused on becoming a professional?
I was interested in going to the Immaf, but Scotland has no team. I am not allowed to compete as much as an independent hunter if ID likes to do it, it is very much out of reach. But yes, I am certainly more focused on Pro. I think that maybe an amateur will look at Pro.
5. You defeated UK No.1 Jake Ngai in your last fight, was that the perfect test to get ready for the pro -rangs?
Yes, Jake was definitely a great test. Really good to show my level and skills. He is definitely a good opponent to prepare me for the pro -ranks.
6. If there was one rule in MMA, you could change what it would be and why?
Yes, I really can’t think of the rule that I would change. There is definitely a gray area with the whole downstairs opponent -but I don’t know if there is a rule that I would like to change to be honest.
7. Favorite training partner?
My favorite training partner is probably my brother [Sean Clancy Jr].
Now that we have succeeded in learning a lot about Stephen’s life in the cage, I wanted to find out how his personality was outside the crazy world of MMA. So we had a Quickfire round of random questions.
- What is your favorite TV program?
At the moment it is Naruto: Shippuden.
2. Favorite thing to eat outside Vechtkamp?
Probably some Birria tacos or just a solid pizza. My favorite sweet treat is probably a chocolate cookie
3. If you could eat with 3 people in the past or present, who would they be?
Theo von, Genghis Khan and Rick van Rick & Morty. That would be a good sacrament.
4. What is the largest animal that you could beat in a fight?
Is it with or without weapons? With a small knife or something that I could probably take on the entire animal kingdom, I can’t lie. Without a knife, the largest animal, I would certainly be able to go up a giraffe. That’s pretty big. I could fight a big cat, such as a Jaguar or something. No tiger, but I could certainly beat a leopard.
5. Dream Holiday destination?
Maybe like Bali, or something, somewhere fun and tropical, such as Hawaii.
Now you know a bit about more about higher level, Stephen Clancy, catch his next outing at BMF 14 in the Barnsley Metrodome on October 11, while challenging Lewis Clarke for the BMF -Fedgeweight title.
