When will Artemi Panarin and Adrian Kempe sign an extension?
Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined SiriusXM NHL Network Radio with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin on Monday and was asked about the latest contract negotiations between the New York Rangers and Artemi Panarin, as well as Adrian Kempe and the Los Angeles Kings.

Scott Laughlin: “Yeah, before that, Dave, Artemi Panarin, shaved his head, and he reacted a little offensively at first. Then they played the (New York) Islanders on Saturday, and it was another home game, where the Rangers couldn’t find the back of the net.”

So there’s Panarin and Adrian Kempe, Dave. It wasn’t that long ago that we all sat with him in Las Vegas during the North American Player Media Tour and asked him about the extension we thought was coming from the Los Angeles Kings. And no deal yet. Some progress perhaps, you might think, when it comes to Panarin with the Rangers and Adrian Kempe with the Los Angeles Kings.”
Dave Pagnotta: “I haven’t heard much about Panarin. I think everyone just wants to have a good understanding of what the heck this season is going to look like. I know there’s been some conversations, some back and forth, and I think the Rangers prefer a shorter term. I think Paarin is looking at the medium term of four or five years, while I think the Rangers are more comfortable in that three-year period. But I don’t know if that’s really going to get things done. will get.”
But I also haven’t heard much about those conversations gaining momentum because they still think they want to know where they stand. And you know, who put this curse on them because they were locked out of their home five or seven times? That’s something they also have to figure out internally.
With Kempe, they paused talks in October and thought they would resume by the end of the month. That wasn’t the case, but I checked in a few days ago and it looks like they’ve resumed those conversations. And my insight over the weekend was that there is still a lot of work to be done.

They’re still grinding, but the conversation is back and they’re going back and forth. I think in this situation, and Kempe told us he wants to stay. He likes it there. His family likes it there. Perfect World, he’ll get something done here by the end of the calendar year. At this stage he had hoped for the start of the season. But sometimes these things kind of disappear.
But he wants to make it happen. The Kings want to make it happen. It’s just a matter of finding that middle ground, finding the right structure, and so on. And you can hear that, they are back to the apology, not the drawing board. They are back at the negotiating table and the conversation continues, as they say.”
