The largest displacement V-Twin engine ever in a production motorcycle

The largest displacement V-Twin engine ever in a production motorcycle

5 minutes, 32 seconds Read

Heavy cruiser bikes usually get the largest V-twin engines. Despite being discontinued since 2010, the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 was still known for having the largest V-twin engine ever on a production motorcycle, with its liquid-cooled 2,053 cc mill. Now, however, it has been surpassed in terms of engine power by one Harley Davidson.

This heavily modified, beefy American V-twin is also the most powerful Milwaukee-Eight engine variant ever offered on a factory-installed production Harley. This sporty bag is filled to the brim with parts designed and derived from the motorcycles of the Harley-Davidson Factory Racing Team. It also outpaces its rivals by a significant margin, with the 160 hp BMW K 1600 B being the only exception.

To ensure accuracy, the information in this article has been sourced from the respective manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson India.

The star of the show is the CVO Road Glide RR’s 2,153 cc (131 cu-in) V-twin, designed exclusively for the track. This Milwaukee-Eight 131 V-twin produces 153 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque at 5,750 rpm and 4,750 rpm, respectively. Interestingly, despite being a hardcore racing engine, Harley has tuned it to produce powerful torque at low revs.

However, the cleverly designed camshaft profile and large intake are designed to carry that torque through a wide powerband, closer to the 6,500 rpm redline. This ensures that the CVO Road Glide RR has grin-worthy acceleration and top speed, with the curb weight of over 780 pounds causing little to no hindrance.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through an exclusive Screamin’ Eagle King 6 transmission that, according to Harley, is “battle tested on Factory Race Team motorcycles and designed for smooth shifting performance and durability.” Notable changes include revised, cut-back shift cam angles to improve gear engagement, and gears and shafts blast-blasted for added strength.

Striking features of this exclusive powertrain

  • 68mm throttle body

  • Aluminum intake manifold

  • CNC ported cylinder heads

  • Liquid-cooled cylinder heads

  • Fatigue resistant Inconel exhaust valves

  • 30-tooth sprocket for increased acceleration

The impressive chassis configuration and hardware specs that help this race-bred Harley unleash its maximum potential, which go hand in hand with its mighty V-twin. It boasts a mild steel tube main frame that supports the massive 131 V-twin. This is coupled with a custom-made one-piece aluminum swingarm. The chassis is suspended at both ends on race-spec, fully adjustable Ohlins suspension hardware, with 5.1 inches of travel up front and 3.5 inches of travel in the rear.

This suspension raises the ride height by 2 inches, increasing the lean angle for aggressive cornering. The CVO Road Glide RR has a maximum lean angle of 36 degrees to the right and 35 degrees to the left; a notable 3 degree bump on both sides, compared to the “not so everyday” CVO Road Glide ST.

Braking duties are also handled by high-end Brembo hardware at both ends. The front gets Brembo GP4-RX CNC brake calipers and T-Drive brake discs that claim to offer braking performance close to MotoGP levels. Grip is provided by sticky Dunlops wrapped around lightweight cast aluminum wheels at both ends.

10 Legendary Harley-Davidson Motorcycles That Refuse to Die

Harley-Davidson has created some engines that with the right amount of TLC can run forever. Here are 10

Sharp looks and aggressive ergonomics for a bagger

The sharp, intimidating look is defined by a graphic design inspired by the livery of the 2025 HD Factory Racing team motorcycles competing in the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers series. The dramatic paint job features a poppy Solid Racing Orange shade that “explodes” into a series of bars that form the Bar and Shield logo on the fairing, tank, side covers and saddlebags.

Additionally, a white “Screamin Eagle” graphic runs from the fuel tank to the sides of the fairing. Many carbon fiber components enhance the sporty, aggressive visual appeal of this grass catcher, some of which have a clear coating to reveal the dark carbon fiber weave. The mighty engine is finished in Hog Black with contrasting Racing Orange accents on the lifter tubes and rocker boxes. Glossy black wheels complete the look.

Although it is a grass catcher, the ergonomics are not very relaxed due to its racing nature. It certainly has long and wide handlebars and forward footpegs. But a factory-installed race-inspired solo seat with pommel underlines this bagger’s true intentions to be wicked fast. This saddle was developed in collaboration with Saddlemen to help the rider with optimal race-ready ergonomics and keep things in place even under extreme acceleration and hardcore cornering. The soft pommel here helps with the extreme braking performance it offers.

Loaded with surprising technological features for a “racing bike”

Harley-Davidson has also injected its racing DNA into the electronics of the CVO Road Glide RR. Most impressive is the list of 9 driving modes, 2 of which are coded specifically for the track. Confidence is instilled by a host of safety and support features such as cornering ABS and traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, vehicle hold assist and electronically linked brakes, to name a few.

Being technically a touring-ready, street-legal machine, Harley’s most powerful bagger features a premium audio system, advanced LED lighting and a massive 12.3-inch TFT touchscreen with connectivity. Combining the appeal of hardcore racing and easy on-road features, this limited edition CVO, limited to just 131 examples, is truly the only bagger that can justify its $110,000 price tag.
