The Pelicans in New Orleans have become one of the most hated and non -respected teams in the NBA during this season. They are not only angry fans on X, they are sports books that get an extremely low victory to them total, popular sports media that poorly judge their outdoor season, so it is safe to say that it is trending to the Pelicans in the NBA world.
This trend continued today when the NBA announced the National Games scheme for the Group Play part of the Emirates NBA Cup. The pelicans can be seen in zero of them about all 15 games.
In group game of the Emirates NBA Cup 2025, 15 games will be broadcast nationally in Prime Video, NBC and ESPN.

I mean, how is that possible? How is a team with a superstar like Zion Williamson always respected?
Now I understand that the pelicans are not on the largest market and may not always draw the best TV numbers. But one thing that I can’t believe is that the Grizzlies got a prime time game against the Lakers, and not the pelicans. On which basketball fan would LeBron vs prefer to see the Grizzlies instead of LeBron vs Zion? I don’t think anyone.
Even the Miami Heat somehow got a national television match despite the fact that he went 37-45 last season and had their only movement out of season to add Norman Powell. Seeing the heat received this type of treatment from the NBA as a gut pot for pelikans fans.
More fuel for the fire
According to an article published by Sports illustratedThe Pelicans had 13 national television matches last season. This was probably due to their success of the previous year, because they ended with 49 victories in the 2023-24 campaign and made the play-offs as the 8th seed in the Western Conference.
This shows that the lack of respect for which the Pelicans have confronted, probably due to their Down season last year. The punishment of the pelicans for having an injuries-searching season that forced them to roast a lot of non-NBA level players, seems unfair, especially when we consider how much talent they have when they are healthy.
There is no doubt in my mind that with a healthy selection and the additions of Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, Derik Queen and Jeremiah fears, the Pelicans could prove that last year was a comme.
New Orleans will have one of the most exciting high-scoring violations of the competition next season, so that the NBA decision to not involve the pelicans a major bad service. This poor service extends beyond the Pelicans and their fans, because it also takes the chance for many casual fans to watch the Pelicans next season.
