Emma Lamb lights edgbastone with her half century
Birmingham Phoenix first chooses in Edgbaston and put a competitive total of 148/5 out of their 100 balls. The innings were anchored by the in-shape opener, Emma Lamb, who showed her class with an excellent half century and 55 points scored from only 32 deliveries. Phoenix started carefully and navigated through the first phase to reach 16/0 after 15 balls and to close the 25-ball power play at 36/0. However, the young wrist spinners of the Phoenix came to the opportunity. Left-Armer Millie Taylor (1’22) threw a crucial penultimate set of five balls, gave only seven points and left 20 points dramatically for EM Arlott to defend in the last set. The highlight of the innings, and a game changing moment, came when Taylor pulled a stunning catch with one hand in short fine legs to reject the dangerous sciver brunt, so that the fate of the rockets was effectively sealed. Arlott ended with figures of 2’38, while Hannah Baker was excellent with 2/18 of her 15 balls, while Trent Rockets closed their innings on 137/6.
