Premier -Trainer Emma Stewart thinks brilliant young Pacer the Highlight Reel (The poster boy) can set up his claim for a berth in Tab Eureka when he returns to Melton on Saturday evening.
The Star three-year-old, who has six wins and three placements of 11 starts, has not been raced since third place in the Nutrien final in Melton ended on 11 April. Two starts earlier he was third in the NSW Derby.
“Don’t forget him. I think he’s still in the Eureka mix tab,” said Stewart.
“It looks like an open race at this stage with a few places that are still for the taking and this guy works really well at home at home.”
The highlight Reel is one of the six strong winning opportunities that Stewart walked in Melton on Saturday evening, but will have to overcome a broad draw.
“It is never easy from outside (gate seven) and he will benefit from the run, but he is the class runner and must be difficult to beat what he is doing at home,” she said.
Stewart described winning the inaugural 2023 Tab Eureka with co-trainer Clayton Tonkin and their Star Mare Encipher as one of the greatest excitement of her great career.
She almost repeated the dose last year when the three-year bay of Biscay went home for a blissful second for the subsequent Inter Dominion and Miracle Mile winner Don Hugo.
Bay of Biscay is the only confirmed runner of Stewart in this year’s $ 2.1 million tab of this year, after he has received Rob Watson’s Soho Standardredslot for the 6 September race on Menangle.
But she expects to have at least two starters in the field of 10 horses.
“War Dan Buddy won well on Menangle last week and is probably the next one in line for us. He would be a favorite to run in the lock that his owners (Danny and Jo Zavitsanos) have,” said Stewart.
“The Summit Bloodstock crew is also a large part of our stable and they also have a lock to fill, so hopefully they will go with one of us.”
Stewart said that three-year-olds Go Miki and Fox Dan, who both won impressive last weekend, together with the Highlight Reel, the other important stable contenders were for Tableka slots.
“They both returned well and are certainly in the (tab Eureka) photo,” she said.
That is the depth of Stewart’s stable, two of the strongest tab Eureka-kansborners-star four-year-old mare very beautiful and NSW Derby winner always hot repeats after setbacks.
Very nice has nine wins and a second from only 10 starts, but has not raced since a Melton victory almost a year ago (August 17, 2024).
While always hot heder had sustained a tendon injury after he had stretched his unbeaten record to eight races with a dominant representation in the NSW Derby on March 1.
“Always hot is a really handful. He was back and came along well until he put his leg over a fence and recently hurt himself again. Fortunately it is superficial, but you won’t see him now until the end of the year,” she said. “The chariots of Vuur (next March) will be his main target from here.
“Very nice has been in and out a few times, but we are satisfied with her this time. We are slowly taking it because we think the world of her. She won’t come back until late in the year.”
In other stable news, the exciting Pacer de Narcissist, who won his first eight starts for Stewart, is sidelined with a tendon injury.
“It happened when he really burned early and finished fourth last time on Melton. It’s not a bad (injury), but it’s still long,” said Stewart.
