Moomin Arabia’s finstämda collection Haru will be launched in 2024 as the first complete service in Moomin Arabia’s ongoing range. The language of the service is Skapat av design duo Naoto Niidome (Finnish-Japanese) and Nathalie Lautenbacher (Finnish-French) and showcases the life and work of Tove Jansson, as well as the Finnish skärgården, with subtle Japanese accents.

– It was fantastic to work on a project that felt so warm. The shapes and illustrations spread joy and depict celebrated meals and everyday moments – something that is often reflected in the Moomin stories, says Lautenbacher.

The name Haru comes from the rocky island of Klovharun, called Haru, on the southern coast of Finland. Tove Jansson had her summer house there in the sixties and nineties. ‘Haru’ also appropriately means ‘spring’ in Japanese.

New porcelain for tea and serving

In Haru, four characters are introduced for the first time: the Moomin family friend Too-ticki, the lonely wanderer Marron, the plant lover Hemulen and the lively rock dachshunds. The dark blue decorations of the new parts, with archipelago flora and Moomin characters, are motifs based on the wreath illustrations that Tove Jansson drew for her Moomin books and other works. The idea of the new additions is that they are suitable for all occasions – whether morning, dinner or afternoon tea.

The cup with saucer is a novelty that invites you to make tea in the traditional way or to hold small tea ceremonies at home. The mini plates are suitable for chocolate pralines and the larger serving bowls provide a complete afternoon tea experience.

The serving bowl immediately elevates any table setting and becomes a striking eye-catcher both at meals and as part of the interior. It is perfect for different types of fruit, for example. The designers’ favorite is the serving bowl with Mårran motif, perfect for ice cream, dips or small snacks.

Pots for plants and a Japanese feel

A new part of the collection are pots that bring the tranquility of the magic of the archipelago and Japanese aesthetics into your home. Green plants and herbs against the blue-white porcelain give a nice feeling on windowsills, countertop or balcony. The pots consist of two parts: a pot with a hole in the bottom and a bowl that collects excess water.

– The pots add a new dimension to the collection. While they retain the spirit of Haru tableware, we have paid extra attention to functionality, says Niidome.

The pots are available in two sizes, for herbs, succulents or medium-sized plants. Why not start growing a bonsai that matches the aesthetic of the pot?

The new Haru products will be available for purchase from March 24, 2026 via moominarabia.com, Moomin Arabia stores, Moomin.com and selected retailers.
