The generation that is most likely to work for financial reasons has been revealed: realestate.com.au

Out of love or money? A new study has shown that millions of Aussies connect for financial reasons.

A Finder survey among 1004 respondents showed that almost 1 in 5 (17%)-which corresponds to 3.6 million people-pursued a romantic relationship for financial reasons.

One in ten (9%) said they were honest with their partner about their intentions, while eight percent kept their financial motivations hidden.

Another seven percent say they had a relationship in which they think their partner was with them for the money.

Of those who have pursued a romantic relationship for financial reasons, 34 percent say they were not entirely fair about their own financial situation.

Vinder Personal Finance expert Sarah Megginson said that the investigation demonstrated how much money can influence the heart of the heart.

“For some Australians, the increasing costs of living has fade the boundaries between love and financial security,” said Megginson.

“Choosing a partner based on their bank balance may seem practical in the short term, but it can eventually make you vulnerable.

“When financial security is the most important motivation in a relationship, this risks to create power inequality and can be eroded trust – both of which are toxic.”

And there is no shortage of online websites where sugar babies can meet a sugar uncle or sugar mama.

One site alone has more than 9.2 million members.

A Forbes report that was published last year said that sugar relationships were mutually affordable relationships between two people, with one person giving financial support, gifts, property, etc. to another person, often younger.

Although there was no big difference between the sexes in the study, Finder’s Consumer Sentiment Tracker (CST) showed that men still had considerably larger money reserves than women.

The average woman had saved $ 33,308 in September, compared to $ 53,301 for men.

The Finder study showed that Gen Z (32%) was most likely dated because of financial security, compared to 27 percent of the millennials, 11 percent of Gen X and only 2 percent of baby boomers.

Megginson said that healthy relationships require effective communication and emotional connection.

“It is crucial to have open conversations about money, and just as important to ensure that financial comfort is not the only thing you keep together,” she said.

Four financial alarm signals in a relationship:

Confidentiality: Think of hiding bank accounts, not being open about debts, or making large purchases without consulting your partner. This behavior undermines trust, a core pillar of every relationship.

Unfairness: Lying about income, savings or spending pattern also damages confidence and can cause serious damage in the long term.

Unwilling to talk about finances: A partner who consistently avoids conversations about money or becomes defensive has something to hide. Healthy relationships require open communication, and that also means talking about financial goals and challenges.

Power balancing: Although this is not an alarm signal in itself, having considerably more financial control with one partner can lead to resentment or a sense of dependence on the other. It can create an unhealthy dynamic where one person feels that he has all the power in making decisions.
