The item of clothing I think you see everywhere now is the cape. At least in my algorithms and field of view. I think it started with lightly draped cape dresses à la old Celine and then they went a bit behind the eye from there. As you know, if you haven’t thought about a piece of clothing before, you obviously haven’t registered it in the same way and then you think it’s everywhere. So now I’ve suddenly become so excited to find a vintage cape with perhaps fringe or fur details. Preferably a slightly shorter model, but not too narrow a model that looks more like a dropped collar over the shoulders, although I do like them, they are relatively easy to find. But preferably one that you can wear indoors and that doesn’t feel like outerwear. Wishlisht. Then you never know what you’ll run into.
Why does the cape feel so luxurious? Is it because it is a rather impractical belief? It must have something to do with the fact that historically it is a status marker that also requires its silhouette and build. A cape is also often more dramatic than, for example, a jacket. I think of a lot of old Hollywood of course with a cape over a gala dress, but I really like the styling that @hannamw does with jeans. I think it’s the By Marlene Birger cape she has, which is reminiscent of typical 50s capes, so something similar is guaranteed vintage.
But it’s a relatively big problem here, is there a more impractical garment to wear when you have a 1.5 year old haha! But I’m still enjoying these fun inspo photos for now, so we’ll see if a vintage cape comes my way or not. What do you think of the cape?
