This match has been going on for a few years and is nothing but bragging rights. But there remains something quite compelling about watching two of the fastest cars in the world being driven as hard as they can on North America’s most famous race track. Most recently, Koenigsegg had claimed the upper hand with his new Sadair’s Spear, recording a Racelogic-verified 1:24.16 a few weeks ago. That goes fast: a McLaren Senna could only achieve a 1:27.62, for context. It also meant a few precious tenths compared to the Czinger.
But apparently this only “energized” the Czinger team, according to founder Lukas Czinger, so they headed back to the track. With ideal weather (see the video; the photos are from a previous attempt) the 21C has put clear skies between itself and the Sadair’s Spear with a stunning 1:22.30 lap. Both cars used Michelin Cup 2R tyres, so it’s a level playing field, and Racelogic verified both times.
The lap makes for a beautiful watch, as these multi-million dollar hypercars so often do. The speed is unrelenting on board the Czinger; Apparently the maximum use of the 21C’s electric assist has helped significantly to improve the lap time, and the way it hurtles to 160mph before braking for the first hairpin is truly spectacular. It’s also eerily composed, completely unaffected by massive stops and the song’s unique topography. The car hardly seems to break a sweat, while driver Joel Miller gives it everything he has.
In a Road & Track interviewCzinger said: “This record shows that the next generation design and manufacturing technology behind the 21C is delivering significant performance improvements. This team is relentless in their pursuit of excellence, and I am proud of the great result they have achieved.”
We look forward to seeing what Koenigsegg – or whoever – comes up with in 2026…
