The NBA trade deadline rumor mill always churns out some silly scenarios to generate clicks, and Dillon Brooks’ connection to the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the most we’ve seen this season.

But even though this suggestion is currently incorrect and the Suns would be crazy to do business with the Lakers, it shows that the Suns are already real this season.
They had a hard time trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for the package they received, even though he helped them on the way out, but Brooks wasn’t even the best player they got back.
That would be Jalen Green, who has played about a half hour of competitive basketball since last season’s playoffs. Brooks was the addition, but he changed everything in the way the Lakers need to do now.
He cares about every game, takes it personally when he plays against certain players and is the perfect foil for Devin Booker. The Suns have already won 20 games this season and are heading to the postseason.
Brooks would also be the ideal fourth player to stay alongside LeBron James (imagine the two of them on the same roster), Luke Doncic and Austin Reaves.
But the Lakers don’t have anything close to an attractive package to offer in return for Brooks, and even if they did, he means too much for what the Suns are doing now.
The fact that this is even a conversation starter just proves that Phoenix has exited the Durant era on a high, and while they may be short on draft picks in the coming years, they are already further along in terms of winning than anyone could have predicted.
They are also starting to get something out of their youngsters, but that is a conversation for another day. Brooks is also the perfect veteran for these guys, another reason why other teams would want him.
The Lakers need a spark and Brooks will immediately provide a big bang wherever he lands, so on paper it makes sense. Only the game won’t be played on paper, and the Suns won’t have to deal with the Lakers about it.
