The game plan of Islam Makhachev against Jack della Maddalena is no secret.
After months of speculation, Dana White officially announced on Thursday that ‘JDM’ will put his welterweight world title for the first time against Makhachev at UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden for the first time.
Shortly after defeated Maddalena Belal Muhammad to claim the 170-pound crown in May, Makhachev left its lightweight title, determined to go up and etched his name in the history books as one of the few hunters in the history of UFC to keep gold in two different weight classes.
Creeks with Submission radio Shortly after the announcement of White, the coach of Della Maddalena, Ben Vickers, offered some insight into how ‘JDM’ intends to deal with the Wustle-heavy attack of Makhakevel.
“He is not going to hurry and run to Jack’s hips, but he is going to try to get Jack as soon as possible. Even if it is normal to try to tire him in the early parts of the fight and get him quickly in his world, he will cause damage to Jack damage when he is on the feet.
“I am sure he doesn’t want to be there for as long as possible. We have all heard Khabib in the corner that Islam really casts when it does not go for the Takedown. I absolutely think there will be a lot of input from Khabib to get Islam to shoot the Takedown often and early. But there is no hurry and no panic.”
How will the removal of Della Maddalena stand against Makhachev?
Despite a solid Takedown defense of 69% within the OctagonDella Maddalena has difficulty staying upright sometimes. Against Muhammad, he handed over three of the nine total attempts by the former title holder.
Before that, ‘JDM’ was brought down seven times in his UFC 299 collision with Gilbert Burns, although he eventually started winning the game via a TKO on the third round.
