The CEO of Ford is not sold on Apple CarPlay Ultra: ‘Do not like the implementation’

Ford was one of the many car manufacturers who initially use to integrate Apple CarPlay Ultra into its vehicles. It was more than two years ago and the technology did not start as expected. Aston Martin was the first to officially adopted CarPlay Ultra earlier this year, but you will probably not soon see it in a Ford Motor Company vehicle until Apple makes some changes.

Fomoco CEO Jim Farley revealed The edgeS Decoder podcast That the automaker is not impressed by Apple’s first iteration from CarPlay Ultra. He said:

“We don’t like the performance of Ultra in the first round, but we are very committed to Apple.”

Farley said that the automaker is not interested in ruining the experience in the car with its own software to disturb someone’s digital life for profit. The company strives to give customers a choice when it comes to connectivity, and that includes offering standard CarPlay.

“We don’t think we should limit that to make money with the customers. We don’t want it to be a hassle. We don’t think we can design an experience that will move your phone,” Farley said.

According to the executive power, the problem with integrating CarPlay Ultra lies at Apple. It is unclear what Apple’s goal is with the technology and how much of the vehicle it wants to control, such as starting the car or limiting the speed, which services and technologies that Ford already offers for its pro customers.

He said:

‘I think Apple should decide whether it wants control over the entire experience in a vehicle. If that is the case and Ultra wants to follow with the Ultra 2 or whatever, then Ford will have to make a big decision. ‘

Honestly added that any future software solutions should go further than just infotainment and integrate the advanced driver’s systems of the vehicle.

CarPlay

Ford is not the first car maker to show fear with CarPlay Ultra. Earlier this year, reports showed that various other early employees, including Mercedes-Benz and Volvo, decided not to add the upgrade. At the time, even Ford was cautious about his plans, and recently BMW went so far that they say that the use of cards in CarPlay is not as popular as everyone thinks

Despite some reservations, other car manufacturers want to add the technology, such as Porsche. It is still planning to offer CarPlay Ultra in future vehicles, although it did not say when. We will also see CarPlay Ultra in future Kia, Hyundai and Genesis models.
