Kadri trade talks heat up while flame management remains patient
During the early edition of Insider Trading, host Gino Reda asked TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger about the Calgary Flames and what the plan is for Nazem Kadri. Will he be moved between now and the deadline?

Gino Reda: “What about the Flames. They’re 11 points behind Dregs. Could be a huge advertisement for a team headed to the playoffs, especially with his friendly deal that pays him $7 million per season this year and three more points to come. Could we see a bidding war for this guy?”
NHL Rumors: The Calgary Flames remain patient with Nazem Kadri
Darren Dreger: “Well, you’re going to see a lot of interest, and there is significant interest in this stage. I believe there have been offers and trade offers made on Nazem Kadri, but I think Craig Conroy, the general manager of the Calgary Flames, is also looking around at the Gino market here.
He wonders what Barry Trotz and the Nashville Predators will do. Is Ryan O’Reilly really in the game, and if he is in, what is the return for Ryan O’Reilly? If a team interested in O’Reilly doesn’t get the player, they might move to the Calgary Flames and sweeten the deal to acquire that player.
So even though Nazem Kadri wants to be traded, and yes, sure, he wants to go to a contending team, or at least a playoff team, I think we can appreciate the patient approach here from the Calgary Flames, but it seems increasingly likely that Kadri will be traded between now and the deadline.
NHL Rumors.com Note: Nazem Kadri has been the subject of trade talks for some time now. As reported this summer, GM Craig Conroy is waiting for an offer he can’t refuse. Over the months, the conversation around Kadri has gone from him wanting to stay, to him being willing and open to a trade, and now to wanting to be traded.
NHL Rumors: Action against Nazem Kadri picked up
If Sportsnet’s Eric Francis wroteKadri knows the inevitable is coming when it comes to a Kadri trade. He has asked for a trade, but management knows his desire to win again. Even though he wanted to do it in Calgary, he understands their plan. He’s a Calgary Flame for now, but teams will call the trade deadline as they build up that cap space.
The Flames are patient and waiting for the right offer. Again, retention is an issue; they have one slot left for this season, which means if they keep it, it’s this season plus three more seasons. What happens to Blake Coleman, MacKenzie Weegar and Ryan Lomberg?
It is no longer a question of if, but when.
