A breathtaking train ride through the heart of Africa is one of the most dangerous railroad trips in the world, despite offering a view of animals in the wild, waterfalls and stunning mountains. The route extends over 1,160 miles between two countries and cuts through external landscapes, game reserves and areas without access to the road.
Passengers are often confronted with hours of delays, unexpected malfunctions and a rough ride as a result of aging equipment and poor infrastructure. Yet it is still full of travelers who want to experience the one -time trip. The railway is the railway of Tanzania-Zambia, known as Tazara, and runs from Dar Es Salaam on the east coast of Tanzania to Kapiri MPoshi in Central Zambia. It takes about 46 hours to complete the journey when they run on time.

According to travel experts at Lonely Planet, it is one of the few trains in the world where you can see wild animals from your chair, including elephants and giraffes.
The railway goes through rural communities and open Savannah and offers a glimpse of daily life in the two nations.
According to the Tanzania-Zambia Railway AuthorityThe Mukuba Express runs in every direction once a week and leaves Dar Es Salaam on Friday and Kapiri Mposhi on Tuesday.
It is named after the export of Zambia and lasts approximately 46 hours. This service includes first and second -class sleeping cabins, a food truck and package buses that can wear up to 15.7 tons of freight.
The normal passenger train is slower and stops at every station along the route. It starts from both ends of De Lijn on Tuesday and Friday and is designed for local travel.
It also carries charge and includes seats for those who make shorter journeys.
Community sites work daily in Dar Es Salaam, with 30 km between the main station and Mwakanga.
Introduced to illuminate congestion in the city, run these services during peak hours and wear around 9,000 passengers a day, except during the weekend and holidays.
Tazara also has special tourist trains, especially for the Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected nature reserves in Africa.
These services are popular during holidays and include excursions organized by tour operators.

Luxury trains such as the Rovos Rail and Shongololo Express also occasionally walk along the Tazara route.
The line was built by China between 1970 and 1975 after Tanzania and Zambia had difficulty guaranteeing support from Western governments.
The Tazara authority says that China has funded the project through a 30-year interest-free loan and provided the engineers, equipment and workforce that is needed to build it.
The construction included 320 bridges, 22 tunnels and more than 2,200 divers, a lot in steep and remote areas.
About 89 million cubic meters of earth and rock were moved during the five -year -old build.

More than 51,000 employees were involved, including 13,500 from China, and at least 160 people died.
In a statement on their website, the authority described the project as “one of the most awesome engineering performance ever performed by China in Africa”.
Despite its scale, the line is now known for long delays and safety problems. A YouTube -Documentary by Free documentaryentitled the world’s most dangerous railways, unveiled regular disruptions, derailments and failures of infrastructure.
Mechanical problems can leave trains in remote areas for days. There are also uncontrolled intersections and dangers for wildlife, especially in the selective area, which sometimes lead to collisions.
But even with the challenges, many still call it “one of the world’s most unforgettable rail trips”.
