At the Basketball World Cup 3×3 in San Juanteam Australia has turned heads with his combination of speed, skill and teamwork, aided by player Jordan McCormick, who brings passion and infectious enthusiasm to every game.
“3×3 is fast and fun, and we all did our best.” Jordan shared. “Us Uniform partners Chloe and Marley are fantastic. They shared the ball with all of us. We played very well together, we won two and lost one. Let’s see how we do today against Costa Rica.”
Learn and grow together
For Jordan, the World Cup is not just about competition; it’s about growth and making memories. “Next time I would continue to practice and learn more about 3×3 and more defense as I am still learning,” she admitted. Her journey to basketball was marked by perseverance.
“I started gymnastics when I was little and played basketball for my school. Then I switched to basketball and have been playing for four years. Overall, I love my sport and I feel very lucky to be here because with Special Olympics everyone becomes one big family.”
Jordan represented Victoria at the 2022 Australian National Games in Tasmania, and shares that she was proud to represent Australia at the Special Olympic World Games in BerlinGermany, in 2023. “My favorite position is anywhere! But I really love taking photos.”
Coach’s Take: Pride and Progress
Coach Helen Killien has been impressed with the team’s quick adaptation to the fast-paced 3×3 format. “The team excelled here in San Juan and did themselves proud. Uniform sport is very new to Australia. The team has only been playing 3×3 basketball for two months. We are very proud of their ability to adapt to the fast pace of the game and improve their skills,” Helen said.
She also reflected on the lessons she learned during the World Cup: “Our lesson would be to arrive earlier for flight recovery, acclimatization and preparation time. To improve the speed of the game and ensure excellent dance music is always played.”
Basketball dreams of the future
Jordan’s enthusiasm for the game is genuine. “The location is super great. The atmosphere is loud and exciting, which makes us proud to be here. I’m having a fantastic time making lifelong memories and meeting lots of new people.”
Earlier today Australia faced Costa Rica in the battle for third place and ultimately lost 8-5 in a hard-fought match.
