Batavia, NY — After landing in North America earlier this year, Australian paced mare Elegant Woman A (Gambler’s delight) has been steadily rising up the class ladder and saw her efforts culminate on Wednesday evening (October 22) at Batavia Downs when she impressively won the $11,500 AA-Open Handicap for fillies and mares.
The elegant woman A (Drew Monti) came away third behind Delta Three N (Joe Chindano Jr.) who led the field to halftime through the rain over a sloppy track in:57. The race rounded Turn Three and headed up the backstretch, where Monti passed Elegant Woman A first and quickly shot past Delta Three N before crossing to the front as she entered the final turn. Once at the top, Elegant Woman A swelled and ran 4.5 lengths off the screen under a line drive to win in 1:55.4.
ELEGANT WOMEN A REPEAT
It was the seventh win of the year for Elegant Woman A ($6.06), owned by Vogel and Wags Nags, Jack Rice, her trainer Maria Rice and her driver Drew Monti.
In the $8,800 Class A pace for fillies and mares, Rightfully Mine (Kyle Swift) was last at the half before moving into second behind Day To Party (Drew Monti) in pursuit of frontrunner Major Megan (Dave McNeight III) who led the group to three-quarters. It was there that Swift tipped Rightfully Mine three deep and took the lead as she powered down the stretch to a 1:57.4 win.
It was the fourth win of the year for Rightfully Mine ($5.92), owned by Monique Cohen and trained by Chris Petrelli.
Drivers Dave McNeight III and Drew Monti and trainer Chirs Petrelli all had three wins on Wednesday night.
Live racing resumes on Friday (October 24) at Batavia Downs with post time at 6pm and there will be a carryover of $7,032 in the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta in the 13th race.
