Tesla is practically giving away Model Ys with absurd financing and leasing deals to end the year, but you should still skip it – Jalopnik

Tesla is clearly trying to ramp up its fourth quarter deliveries before the year is out, and to do that, it’s making some crazy deals on what might be the worst vehicle it makes aside from the Cybertruck. The Austin, Texas-based automaker is now offering 0% APR financing deals on the Model Y Standard – the disgruntled and outraged base version of the small crossover.

If you’re really craving a Model Y with a small battery, a covered panoramic moonroof, a crappy stereo, and a weird lighting setup, Tesla has the deal for you. The automaker is now offering 0% APR financing for 72 months to buyers with a credit score above 720. Monthly payments are $529 per month, with $3,300 due at delivery. That’s, admittedly, a screaming deal for a car with an MSRP of $41,630, including destination. It’s incredibly rare to find free money these days.

Even if you don’t have an “excellent” credit score, APR rates in this area aren’t bad. 680-720 is an APR of 0.99%, 640-679 is 1.99% and anything under 640 is still only 2.99%. Say you want to go with no money down, with excellent credit, that only brings the APR to 0.99% and increases your monthly payment to $592. Either way, Tesla is trying to give its customers a good deal on this car. It’s just a shame the car has booty cheeks.

The leaser of two evils

There’s a lot of hesitation around buying a new EV, I understand that. That’s why people are turning to leasing, and Tesla is offering them a screaming deal too. However, you cannot lease the Standard for any reason. Now through the end of the year, well-qualified customers with excellent credit can lease a new Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (The Next Step) for $449 per month for 36 months and zero dollars down. All they have to pay is $1,145 at delivery, and that includes the first month’s payment and a $695 purchase fee. At the end of those two years, you have the option to purchase the car outright for $287,756, before taxes and fees.

Sure, it’s a low-mileage lease, only 10,000 miles per year, but still – not too shabby. To be fair, Tesla retains the same zero-down offer whether the renter takes out a 24- or 36-month lease or gets a 10, 12, or 15,000-mile limit. The only thing that changes is the monthly payment. Overall, it’s a good deal if you don’t mind driving a car that lets everyone know you like what Elon Musk posted that day.

I know the deals are good, and in a bubble the Model Y (standard not included) is a good car, but before you go to a Tesla dealer and drop some cash, take a scroll through Musk’s feed and see if his values match yours. If they do, go with God. If they don’t, you may need to look elsewhere.
