Matteo Berrettini And Flavio Cobolli scored singles victories on Friday (November 21) in the Davis Cup Final 2025 8 semi-final in front of a raucous home crowd in Bologna, Italy, defeated Belgium 2-0 to send the Italians to Sunday’s (November 23) final.
Italy awaits the winner of Germany vs Spain in the second semi-final to be played on Saturday (November 22).
After Berrettini weathered Rafael Collignon in the opening match, 6-3, 6-4, Cobolli won one of the matches of the entire 2025 season and survived Zizou Bergs 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(15) in three hours and four minutes, saving seven match points and winning the dramatic encounter on his own seventh chance.
The final set tiebreak was the sixth longest in Davis Cup history at 32 points.
“It’s very difficult to say anything about this match… at the end I realized my dream: we are in the final,” Cobolli said during the Davis Cup broadcast. āI played a great match against a great opponent. I played for my team, my family, for me… it’s one of the best days of my life.
Italian captain added Filippo Volandri: “In the five years that I have been captain, I have never seen anything like this. But this is what the Davis Cup does. It was incredible. At the end I said to [Flavio]It’s five percent tactics and 95 percent heart.”
Italy claimed the men’s team title in both 2023 and 2024, but will want to do so without their two best players in the competition. Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musettiwho both opted out of the event after last week ATP finals in Turin.
