Dressed in the ever-familiar color palette of red, white and blue, they will walk into the opening ceremony on February 6 and the closing ceremony on February 22 in two different outfits designed by fashion brand Ralph Lauren.
The uniforms evoke both the “creative spirit of the city” and the “enduring style” of the fashion brand, said David Lauren, Chief Branding and Innovation Officer at the Ralph Lauren Corporation.
“Our design philosophy has always been about creating dreams and telling stories through style, and these uniforms, both timeless and modern, reflect the passion, optimism and relentless pursuit of excellence that embody the American spirit,” Lauren explains.
The Opening Ceremony look features an oversized white wool overcoat with heritage-inspired wooden toggles and an American flag sewn into the sleeve, complete with a red, white and blue wool intarsia turtleneck and custom white wool pants.
The Closing Ceremony look is a nod to vintage alpine ski clothing. It consists of a striking red, white and blue color-blocked puffer jacket, complete with Team USA patches and ‘2026’ in large font, paired with another wool turtleneck and white utility pants.
Both outfits are completed by red, white and blue hats and mittens, along with a leather belt and brown suede mountain boots with striking red laces.
“It’s a refreshing, more modern fit with slightly looser and looser clothing,” Olympic snowboarding champion Red Gerard told NBC Olympics.
“I’m a big fan of the Opening Ceremony outfit,” he added. “I think they’ve done a really good job of letting people know that we’re Team USA, but also having clothes that you can wear on the street.”
