Taylor Starling scored a big win over Shelby ‘Boom Boom’ Cannon in her 10th promotional performance BKFC 79 On Saturday evening.
Despite giving up a significant size and reach advantage, it was Cannon that pulled first blood and connected with a flourishing overhand that opened Starling’s nose in the opening round. That blow became a recurring theme during the fight-by-the-fourth round, where Cannon landed several times on the one-off title challenge.
Starling used her puncture during the fight to keep Cannon at bay, but it did little to prevent ‘Boom Boom’ from bullying its way in. Yet that ‘Killa Bee’ did not stop to unleash her right left, to save the cannon every time she tried to close.
In the fifth and final round it was someone’s fight. Starling tried to steal the relatively close round with a late flurry, but Kanon pulled the attack and sent us to the score cards for a decision.
Official result: Taylor Starling Def. Shelby Cannon via a unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 48-47).
With the victory, Starling is now 5-4 under the BKFC banner and can stand in line for a rematch with reigning flight weight champion, Christine Ferea.
