With the announcement of the monthly quota of 300 liters for subsidized Ron 95 gasoline that will be priced at RM1.99 per liter from 30 September, the Ministry of Finance has stated that more than 99% of the vehicles in private ownership will use less than 300 liters of fuel in one month.
The Malaysian government had arrived at the monthly quota of 300 liters based on data from the Department of Statistics (DOSM), said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
“If we had set the limit at 140 liters per month, 90% of Malaysians would be eligible, but the government said:” We want to ensure that the majority of people benefit. “So the limit of we decided there is one that covers 99% of the population,” he said, reported The star.

According to briefing illustrations from the Ministry of Finance, Malaysian motorists use the 90th percentile to 140 liters of gasoline per month, while those from the 95th percentile to 180 liters of gasoline per month use. Those within the 99th percentile are registered to use up to 300 liters per month, which is the quotas set.
Stating two cars and one motorcycle as examples, the quota of 300 liters 203 km will use in a Proton -Saga (6.7 liters per 100 km covered by the manufacturer), 340 km per day in a peroda Axia (4.0 liters per 100 km claimed) and 670 km daily on a Yamaha 135.
On Monday, the second finance minister had said that 300 liters of gasoline is sufficient for daily use, because this would meet around 170 km of daily living traffic in cars. “If someone lives in Seremban and works in Kuala Lumpur or Putrajaya, it falls within the 170 km we estimate,” said Amir Hamzah.
Users such as e-hailing controllers are exempt from the quota of 300 liters for Ron 95 gasoline for the price of RM1.99 per liter, but the government will take steps to verify the suitability of those who need more than 300 liters of gasoline per month to curb abuse.
