Diego Simeone stated: “Talent has no age” After seeing Antoine Griezmann his 200th goal scored for Atletico Madrid in the 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.

After they have lost their Champions League opener 3-2 in Liverpool, Athleti got their European campaign on their way to the Estadio Metropolitano on competition day two.

Giacomo Raspadori, Robin le Normand, Giuliano Simeone and Julian Alvarez joined Griezmann on the score sheet when Atleti reached 200 goals in the Champions League and ended the match on 204.

They are the 17th side that reaches that milestone and the third from Spain, after Real Madrid and Barcelona. Only England (five) have had more clubs that reach that figure.

The 34-year-old now has a double century of goals for Los Colchoneros, which yields at least 28 more than any other player in the club’s history, with Luis Aragones on 172.

“I am grateful to Antoine and his time in Atletico Madrid, without even mentioning his 200 goals,” Simeone told reporters afterwards.

“I remember that he arrived as a short wing player who played on the left. We encouraged him to exploit his best qualities-speed, head, his left foot, his one-on-one talent.

“He grew to play in that position at the World Cup and became a world champion [with France in 2018].

“He was always a role model in everything, from his efforts and work ethics to the joy he brought to the team.

“Today the appreciation of our fans is well deserved for what Antoine gives us. Talent has no age.”

Atleti has now scored 13 goals in the space of a week, after he also defeated Rayo Vallecano with 3-2 and Real Madrid 5-2 in Laliga.

After having started the season slowly, the Simeone team is fifth in Laliga and visit the wrestling Celta Vigo before the international break, and the Argentinian still sees room for improvement.

“Scoring goals gives you more confidence and deserves your points. The team has found a way to score in these games,” he said.

“I think we improve defensively and grow offensively in some situations. The team can still strive to improve, and we have to do this with humility, faith and teamwork.”
