“77 PLA aircraft, 17 PLAN ships and 8 official ships operating around Taiwan were detected until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 35 of the 77 flights crossed the center line and reached Taiwan’s northern, central and southwestern ADIZ. We monitored the situation and responded,” the ministry said.
The latest activity comes after the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command conducted military exercises in waters east of Taiwan, which it described as a projection of a full-dimensional force.
Taiwan Defense Minister Wellington Koo said on Tuesday that the PLA’s actions pose a risk to regional stability. According to Taiwan’s MND, Koo said the exercises also pose a threat to civilian maritime and air traffic.
“Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo said today that the PLA’s provocative actions threaten regional stability and civilian traffic. On the advice of the President, the ROC forces will respond calmly and protect the security and democracy of our nation,” the MND said in a separate post.
The ongoing exercises, codenamed “Justice Mission 2025,” will see the PLA Eastern Theater Command deploy its Army, Navy, Air Force and Missile Force units to conduct joint military exercises in the Taiwan Strait and areas north, southwest, southeast and east of Taiwan, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense.
On Tuesday, the MND said it had recorded a higher level of activity, detecting 130 PLA aircraft, 14 PLAN ships and eight official ships around Taiwan as of 6 a.m.
