Tai Emery touches on “male and female balance” with Pearl Gonzalez ahead of the Misfits Mania title fight

Tai Emery has a unique opportunity to compete for yet another title in a second combat sport within the same calendar year and seems to be seizing that opportunity with both hands. The former BKFC title challenger will fight Pearl Gonzalez for the vacant MFB middleweight title on December 20 as part of Misfits Mania, as presented by Misfits Boxing.

When discussing the road to emptying the gold and her focus on becoming the new queen on that proverbial throne, Tai Emery said: [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

‘Once Elle [Brooke] leave the band. Things got a little crazy that way. When a belt was vacant there, I think he started the hunt to find two women who, no matter what happens, who wins, have a Misfits champion. I think Pearl and I, both of us, man, I’m going to say this at the press conference, but bring it back to, you know, I think we’re both tied four. We both have a four-card draw. Tits, ass, face and talent, you know. So now you have to draw eight in our battle. I think that’s like pure Misfits Mania.

In terms of the story and storyline for this Pearl Gonzalez fight, Tai Emery, when touching the tendrils of this Misfits boxing title fight, said: [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“I think we’re both absolutely unique in the female fighting world. Maybe just because of the beauty aspect and we’re very, very feminine. I think we both like to keep a very masculine and feminine balance. That’s why I think one of us being crowned is like never finding a loser. I don’t think so; neither of us hate each other. We don’t need that, we’re both great fighters.”

“We both had a lot of, well, she obviously has a lot more experience than I do. I actually feel like she was fired too quickly from the UFC. So who knows, like the backstory in that. So I feel like for both of us, we’ve done that; maybe we’ve been held back because of the way we look, or, you know, I feel like maybe we’ve been given opportunities, but I also feel like we might have bits that were left behind.”

“Like stones left unturned. I even saw her fight Brit.”[ain Hart] and it was crazy. I actually thought she beat Brit for the belt too, and I think I pushed Brit for the belt too. So even on that level I think, yeah, I know it’s going to be a great fight. I think we both deserve a title. So I think maybe yeah, the storyline is definitely just yeah, two women who never gave up and I’m sure maybe a lot of people who got fired from the UFC or ended up in other things would probably give up and Pearl never gave up.

“She’s stayed pretty active. She continued with Gamebred Boxing and she’s kept at it. Even fighting; I don’t know if she’s fought in Invicta again, but I do know she’s fought on some MMA cards as well. To me, that tells me someone who loves; like she loves being a fighter.”

“She liked it; she didn’t give up. I definitely have the same qualities. So I don’t know if that’s why they chose both of us. But I definitely feel like we both never gave up, even though we were led somewhere else.”

Tai Emery wants to make people ‘feel alive’ and ‘feel invested’ at Misfits Mania

Tai Emery’s response to the characterization of this fight made perfect sense because it was one of those fights that would make you think “how has this not happened before?” Tai Emery joked. [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, that’s what I thought. That’s what I’ve had. I’ve had a lot of reactions actually. Everyone says they’re like, “I’m so excited about this.” That’s cool. I love knowing that people, like the fighting community and even outside the fighting community, are like, “Oh my god, yeah.” That’s the whole point. We want people to feel, we want people to watch us fight, and we want people to feel something. Feel alive, feel involved, and like get excited about it.”
