Table tennis England and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) have strengthened their ties by agreeing to a memorandum of conformity that BUCs players will bring under the TTE -Paraplu for the first time.
BUCs is the national body for delivering a competitive sport in higher education in the UK and offers opportunities in 55 sports for more than 100,000 athletes in more than 150 higher educational institutions in the UK, with the ambition to supply and unite exceptional athletes of students who inspire, develop and unite.
Through the agreement, Table Tennis England will help build on the existing BUCs National Individual Championships, which takes place on 28-30 November 2025 in David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham.
The event attracts more than 450 competitors every year and has a fair claim as the largest annual table tennis tournament in the UK.
Table Tennis England will regulate the event to the same general requirements and broad regulations as a senior 4* tournament in terms of official and physical environment. The event will be bound by sanctions and suspensions of table tennis England, and will also be eligible for national rankings, while we will also be able to deal with and communicate with a broader cohort players in higher education.
Neil Rogers, head of competitions and events of England and England, said: “BUCs and TTE have worked hard to come together and announce this cooperation – the memorandum of agreement will determine important mutual frameworks for recognizing and supporting sanctions, protection and disciplinary between the two bodies.
“This is also a real chance to offer extra value to the 250 BUC players who are already members, and to deal with the 200 that that is not yet.”
The news follows similarities between Table Tennis England and both Table Tennis Wales and the Jersey Table Tennis Association, who have seen that the current satellite opens in Jersey and Wales also switch to the new regulated competition window work this season.
Submissions for the BUCs National Individual Championships 2025-26 are now open! More information, including how you enter, here (BUCs criteria apply).
