The success of Alejandro Tabilo in the Asian Swing opened dramatically on the Chengdu on Tuesday evening. Tabilo has saved two championship points to upset no. 1 seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5) after two hours and 37 minutes.

The Chilean left-handed now has won 11 of his last 12 games, a piece with a second version at the Guangzhou Challenger of the last week and a successful qualification in Chengdu to get his Chengdu run in motion.

Tabilo fought the match points of Musetti while serving at 5-6 in the third set. After he succeeded in holding in, the 28-year-old 4-1 fell at the back of the subsequent Tiebreaker. However, he took six of the following seven points to win the victory – and with it his third ATP title. Musetti continues to stick to two titles during his career.

“I just had to stay mentally and physically,” Tabilo explained. “I was so happy to make the first serving on match points. It was also an incredible effort from the team. It has been a long two weeks and I am just so happy.”

At the Hangzhou Open, Alexander Bublik won his fourth title of the season on a third other surface. Valentin Royer wanted to become a member of Tabilo as a victory qualification, but the 24-year-old Frenchman eventually fell at 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4).

“He played incredible, and I didn’t expect that,” Bublik noted. “He was near this level during the tournament, and he surpassed it (today). He played well and I really had to serve and do my best to win. I served and hit some great photos during the game. I only won a few points.”

The 28-year-old Kazakh triumphed earlier this summer in Halle (Gras), Gstaad (Klei) and Kitzbuhel (Klei). He is in the world and no. 12 in the race to London.
