T20 World Cup 2026: ‘ICC will have to kick them out’ – Former Indian pacer responds to Pakistan’s boycott of India

Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to remove Pakistan from the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup if the country continues with a boycott of their Group A match against India. The two arch-rivals were scheduled to meet in Colombo on February 15.

According to the latest government guidelines, Pakistan will almost certainly skip the match. If that happens, India will get two points while Pakistan will suffer a defeat, which will have a negative impact on their net run rate.

“I feel a little sorry for them, and I’m also a little surprised. What do they want? As they say, ‘When destruction is imminent, wisdom fails.’ Because if Pakistan don’t play this match and don’t concede the points, and you face India later, are you still not playing? will be significant,” Wassan said as quoted by NDTV Sports.

Wassan further suggested that the boycott could come as a relief to the Pakistani players considering their poor performance against India in the World Cup. The Indian team has won 15 of their 16 encounters against Pakistan in ODI and T20 World Cups, including seven of the eight matches in the T20 format.

“They are trying to find every possible way to avenge India, to take revenge on India… They don’t understand that they are heading towards ruin. Maybe the Pakistani players will relax because they know they are going to lose anyway so the humiliation will be less,” Wassan said.

In addition to India and Pakistan, Group A also includes Namibia, the Netherlands and the United States. While India enters the tournament as defending champions, Pakistan suffered an embarrassing first-round exit in the previous T20 World Cup, held in the US and West Indies two years ago.
